Data suggests you might want to become a contractor!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With the latest labour market statistics from the ONS revealing that average weekly earnings for UK workers have increased by 3.4%, further data released today by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cv-library.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"CV-Library (opens in a new tab)\">CV-Library<\/a><\/strong> has found that contractor wages for engineering roles are drastically outpacing average pay across the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The leading independent job board analysed average salary data from hundreds of thousands of contractor jobs posted on its site and compared these figures with average pay across each sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It found that while the average annual pay for engineering professionals stands at \u00a336,050, contractors can expect to earn up to \u00a363,252.80 a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As such, engineering is the top sector for contractor pay* that outpaces the industry average:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engineering \u2013 75.5% above average<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social Care \u2013 72.2% above average<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manufacturing \u2013 66.9% above average<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Design \u2013 up 66.8% above average<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction \u2013 46% above average<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library comments: \u201cIt\u2019s no secret that contractors command far higher salaries than the average UK worker and our data shows that engineering professionals could be earning up to 75.5% more than average. That being said, contracting isn\u2019t for everyone, especially if you\u2019re looking for stability and key workplace perks from your employer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"691\" height=\"297\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Table.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Table.png 691w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Table-300x129.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 691px) 100vw, 691px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the above, the job board found that the average day rate for contractors working in engineering stood at \u00a3244.33, with certain job roles commanding even higher pay packets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Software Engineer &#8211; \u00a3361.25 per day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Civil Engineer &#8211; \u00a3296.52 per day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Site Engineer &#8211; \u00a3288.04 per day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Design Engineer &#8211; \u00a3272.81<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mechanical Engineer &#8211; \u00a3249.93 per day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biggins continues: \u201cHigh pay and flexibility can certainly be appealing factors, but at the end of the day, it\u2019s up to your own personal preferences and what feels right for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Average day rate for contractor included in the table.
