This product will provide a necessary upgrade in protection, without overhauling existing systems. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SPDs are designed to prevent excess voltage appearing at the terminals of sensitive equipment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Class I SPDs protect electrical installations against direct lightning strikes, while class II SPDs are the main protection systems installed in an electrical switchboard.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, even a combination of these devices does not protect equipment sufficiently in today\u2019s factory environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem lies with low level transient surges, which are very damaging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As standard SPDs are voltage triggered only, they cannot account for these rapid changes in frequency. The new range of TDF devices give existing SPDs the ability to track the frequency of electrical current waveforms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this improved insight, low-level transient surges in the electrical system can be detected and filtered before they harm sensitive equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"912\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ST-TDF-1024x912.jpg\" alt=\"Upgrade for surge protectors\" class=\"wp-image-11522\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ST-TDF-1024x912.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ST-TDF-300x267.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ST-TDF-768x684.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ST-TDF-800x712.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ST-TDF.jpg 1270w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Existing surge protection devices are not sufficiently protecting against transient surges<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The TDF device protects against the entire spectrum of surges encountered in today\u2019s electrical environment and is not limited to the impulse surges originating from the power distribution system.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transients generated in the local facility, or by lightening strikes, are all accounted for, unlike other surge protection devices that focus on just one type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a vital step up for many surge arrestors,\u201d explained John Mitchell, global sales and marketing director of CP Automation. \u201cThe launch is particularly relevant for multi-phase applications feeding sensitive, mission critical equipment.
