{"id":11606,"date":"2019-04-12T08:00:53","date_gmt":"2019-04-12T07:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=11606"},"modified":"2019-04-11T10:18:17","modified_gmt":"2019-04-11T09:18:17","slug":"ceramic-capacitors-for-automotive-specifications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/ceramic-capacitors-for-automotive-specifications\/","title":{"rendered":"Ceramic capacitors for automotive specifications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RS Components (RS) is now stocking a new range of automotive-grade AC-line-rated ceramic disc capacitors, manufactured by Vishay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The high-reliability radial-mounting <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uk.rs-online.com\/web\/c\/passive-components\/capacitors\/ceramic-single-layer-capacitors\/?applied-dimensions=4291902205,4291382706\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"AY1 series (opens in a new tab)\">AY1 series<\/a><\/strong> is qualified to AEC-Q200, meeting the stringent demands for use in automotive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The series has been tested to withstand the rigours of the 85 \/ 85\/1000h test (85\u00b0C\/85% relative humidity for 1000 hours), as well as passing 1000 temperature cycles from \u201355 to +125\u00b0C.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"397\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/RS871-Vishay_AY1_capacitor_series-397x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Ceramic capacitors for automotive specifications\" class=\"wp-image-11607\"\/><figcaption>AY1 series of high-reliability safety capacitors specified to meet AEC-Q200 for Class Y1 AC-line filtering and electric vehicle applications<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the series also passes the high-voltage 10 kV pulse test (10 per polarity).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The devices also meet IEC60384-14.4, which provides specifications for fixed capacitors for EMI and RFI generation and suppression, as well as for mains supply connection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The series is therefore ideally suited for deployment as Class Y1 safety capacitors in industrial and automotive environments, for example in AC-line filtering and primary-secondary coupling on battery chargers for various types of electric vehicles including HEV\/PHEVs (hybrid\/plug-in hybrid electric vehicles), or as filter capacitors on DC\/DC converters in PHEVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key electrical characteristics include a capacitance range from 470 up to 4700pF with a tolerance of 20% and voltage ratings up to Class X1 (760 VAC)\/Y1 (500 VAC) and 1500 VDC.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The capacitor\u2019s ceramic disc is copper plated on both sides and features tin-plated copper-clad-steel connection leads with diameters of 0.6 or 0.8 mm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Available with straight leads with spacings of 10.0 or 12.5 mm, the devices are encapsulated in flame-retardant epoxy resin, in accordance with UL94V0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The high-reliability automotive-grade AY1 series from Vishay is in stock now at RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RS Components (RS) is now stocking a new range of automotive-grade AC-line-rated ceramic disc capacitors, manufactured by Vishay.
