{"id":12545,"date":"2019-06-04T10:00:07","date_gmt":"2019-06-04T09:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=12545"},"modified":"2019-06-03T09:19:52","modified_gmt":"2019-06-03T08:19:52","slug":"hybrid-digital-pmbus-and-analogue-modules-feature-10a-and-15a-output-current-handling-capability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/hybrid-digital-pmbus-and-analogue-modules-feature-10a-and-15a-output-current-handling-capability\/","title":{"rendered":"Hybrid digital PMBus and analogue modules feature 10A and 15A output current handling capability"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>RS Components has announced availability of a new family of high-efficiency power modules that provide point-of-load (POL) conversion for advanced FPGAs, DSPs, ASICs and memory used in servers, storage, optical networking, telecom, and a broad range of space-constrained industrial applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manufactured by Renesas Electronics, the new <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uk.rs-online.com\/web\/c\/semiconductors\/power-management-ics\/dc-dc-converters\/?applied-dimensions=4294965101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"ISL8210M\/12M\/80M\/82M power modules (opens in a new tab)\">ISL8210M\/12M\/80M\/82M power modules<\/a><\/strong> are single-channel synchronous step-down power devices that can deliver 10A or 15A of continuous current at the point-of-load. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The family is highly integrated \u2013 combining PWM controller, inductor and MOSFETs \u2013 to deliver the highest power density of any encapsulated module in their class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The family simplifies complex, space-constrained power supply designs and speeds time to market by reducing the number of external components required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, all the modules in the family offer pin-to-pin compatibility, thereby enabling designers to quickly select the appropriate current rating and the level of PMBus capability required, without having to modify their PCB layout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The family comprises 10A and 15A devices that offer an analogue interface and two that come with an additional digital PMBus v1.3 interface: the analogue power modules are the ISL8210M and ISL8212M; and the hybrid digital power modules are the ISL8280M and ISL8282M.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ISL8210M\/12M analogue-loop modules offer a higher power density, expanded feature set via pin-strappable settings, and lower cost when compared to previous power modules from Renesas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key features of the family include: operation from a single 4.5 to 16.5V wide-input power rail; selectable light-load mode (PFM); high efficiency \u2013 up to a peak of 95%; and low thermal resistance, enabling full power operation without a heatsink in the majority of application environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the modules implement the manufacturer\u2019s proprietary R4\u2122 high-speed control loop technology, delivering a compensation-free and stable control loop to eliminate external compensation components, while providing best-in-class fast transient response across the load and input voltage.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the output voltage is fully stable with all ceramic capacitors.
