{"id":12558,"date":"2019-06-04T06:00:44","date_gmt":"2019-06-04T05:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=12558"},"modified":"2019-06-03T09:58:40","modified_gmt":"2019-06-03T08:58:40","slug":"digital-microscope-facilitating-material-analyses-and-high-precision-measurements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/digital-microscope-facilitating-material-analyses-and-high-precision-measurements\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital microscope facilitating material analyses and high-precision measurements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Olympus has launched the new <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympus-ims.com\/en\/microscope\/dsx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"DSX1000 industrial digital microscope (opens in a new tab)\">DSX1000 industrial digital microscope<\/a><\/strong>, facilitating material analyses and high-precision measurements over a 20-7000x magnification range. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DSX series of digital microscopes perfectly combine the quality of Olympus&#8217; renowned optics with the ease of use of digital technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For precise observation of features with all shapes and sizes, 15 objective lenses are available for the DSX1000, providing a range of magnifications, resolutions and working distances.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DSX&#8217;s magnification range of 20x to 7000x is highly useful in applications such as metallurgy for efficient inspection of macro- and microstructure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long working distance objectives make it possible to observe irregular 3D samples, such as electronic boards and machined components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both the headpiece and the stage can rotate 90\u00b0 in both directions, making it easier to view and analyse samples quickly from every direction without moving them. This benefits inspection of thin samples, such as wafers, as well as large parts, such as automotive components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure one microscope is suitable for the widest possible range of inspections, the DSX1000 can image samples with six observation modes (brightfield, darkfield, MIX, polarising, oblique and differential interference contrast). Instant switching between modes means that features requiring different modes can be efficiently analysed in one inspection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wafer inspections, for example, require different modes for observing debris, scratches and larger irregularities on a wafer&#8217;s surface, which means inspection times, are shorter with fast switching on a single instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DSX1000 also features highly accurate measurement capabilities. Manufacturers of, for example, car and precision equipment are required to accurately measure and analyse product specifications to demonstrate safety.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DSX1000 digital microscope uses a telecentric optical system with low distortion throughout the magnification range, to achieve high-precision measurement with guaranteed accuracy and repeatability.
