{"id":14608,"date":"2019-11-06T03:00:50","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T03:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=14608"},"modified":"2019-11-05T10:25:44","modified_gmt":"2019-11-05T10:25:44","slug":"new-university-aims-to-fulfil-demand-for-tech-talent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/new-university-aims-to-fulfil-demand-for-tech-talent\/","title":{"rendered":"New university aims to fulfil demand for tech talent"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Newly launched research-led university, the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tracking.vuelio.co.uk\/tracking\/click?d=Q0z4rQnIpDvXUN7AxeOieEBYT_kXuztKM0Qo_LqcLEsqcOywwuDtuU7M3yjUMxWh_pRo2IND71Fwv2RuJkFoDZTxOCsuRHg4VEYNB2ikIk1O0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT)<\/a><\/strong>, has welcomed its first intake of computer science students for the 2019 to 2020 academic year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having been established as a brand-new institution for technological study, SIT is collaborating with Carnegie-Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, US and the National University of Singapore (NUS) to deliver its highly anticipated master\u2019s program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly created research and higher education institute is currently undergoing development at its headquarters in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a region, Schaffhausen is no stranger to technological feats, serving as a headquarters for some of the world\u2019s leading technology companies.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Positioned near other technological centres such as Zurich, Munich, Stuttgart and Konstanz, Schaffhausen has been chosen as an ideal campus for SIT, connecting its specially developed technology education programs with Europe\u2019s growing need for talent in the fields of computer science, natural science and technology transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Areas of study, which will be available at bachelors, masters and PhD level upon the university\u2019s completion, include artificial intelligence and machine learning, advanced materials and quantum technologies, blockchain and cryptographic architectures, software engineering and cyber security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until SIT\u2019s physical university has been completed, the research centre is currently offering a master\u2019s programme in partnership with CMU in Pittsburgh, United States and NUS in Singapore. CMU is ranked as the leading computer science school in the United States, while NUS is consistently named as one of the world\u2019s top universities with strengths in engineering and science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The master\u2019s program has been exclusively offered to a selected pool of international students, allowing them to apply to three computer science programs at CMU and five programmes at NUS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students will complete their degree at a partner institute during the 2019 to 2020 and 2020 to 2021 academic years but will return to Schaffhausen to establish SIT\u2019s further research and education programs when the wider curriculum has been developed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSchaffhausen Institute of Technology is a new type of university, pioneering a new model of technical education,\u201d explained Bertrand Meyer, SIT\u2019s provost. \u201cAn integral part of SIT\u2019s mission is for our students to collaborate with industrial and technology companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe objective of this partnership will be the fostering of successful technology start-ups and spin-offs.
