{"id":17185,"date":"2020-06-22T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=17185"},"modified":"2020-06-19T11:40:15","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T10:40:15","slug":"turbocompressors-increase-efficiency-for-wastewater-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/turbocompressors-increase-efficiency-for-wastewater-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Turbocompressors increase efficiency for wastewater applications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sulzer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sulzer<\/a><\/strong> has extended its highly popular HST 30 range of turbocompressors with the addition of two new models.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HST 30-58-8 and HST 30-38-2 offer increased flow and pressure respectively for applications in the wastewater industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together with a new, larger motor, the HST 30 range offers a cost-effective, efficient and reliable solution for aeration applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are countless designs for aeration tanks and membrane bioreactors that each have their own requirements in terms of air supply.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The size and depth of the tank will often define the specifications for the turbocompressor; traditional, shallower designs can utilise greater airflows while deeper tanks require high pressures of air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"767\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/SulzerPEW023_pic2_PR6115_32780-1024x767.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/SulzerPEW023_pic2_PR6115_32780-1024x767.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/SulzerPEW023_pic2_PR6115_32780-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/SulzerPEW023_pic2_PR6115_32780-768x575.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/SulzerPEW023_pic2_PR6115_32780-800x599.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/SulzerPEW023_pic2_PR6115_32780.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>An HST 30 installed between an HST 20 and an HST 40 (closest to the camera)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For wastewater treatment plants aiming to upgrade their aeration facilities but retain shallower tanks, the HST 30-58-8 offers improved efficiency at lower pressures up to 75kPa (10.5psig) with an extended flow envelope up to 15,000 Nm3\/h (9,400 SCFM). This model is also well-suited to the task of scouring membranes in membrane bioreactors (MBRs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For some sites, both old and new-build, space constraints can mean that aeration tanks are deeper, with a smaller surface area. In these cases, the turbocompressor needs to deliver a higher pressure to ensure an efficient process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For these applications, the HST 30-38-2 offers increased operating pressures up to 130kPa (18.9psig); the flow is correspondingly lower at 10,00 Nm3\/h (6,500SCFM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HST 30 range has also benefitted from a new 350kW (450hp) electric motor which will be fitted to the top-of-the-range models.
