{"id":18679,"date":"2020-12-15T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=18679"},"modified":"2020-12-14T10:45:33","modified_gmt":"2020-12-14T10:45:33","slug":"500w-step-down-dc-dc-buck-converters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/500w-step-down-dc-dc-buck-converters\/","title":{"rendered":"500W step-down DC-DC buck converters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>TDK Corporation announces the introduction of the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emea.lambda.tdk.com\/uk\/i7a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TDK-Lambda i7A series of 33A 500W rated non-isolated DC-DC converter<\/a><\/strong>s, packaged with the industry-standard 1\/16th brick pinout.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The output voltage of these step-down converters can be adjusted from 3.3 to 24V and accept a wide range input voltage of 18 to 60V.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The i7A 33A series can be used to derive additional high-power outputs from a 24V, 36V or 48V DC power supply, at a much lower cost than isolated DC-DC converters. These compact products are suited for use in medical, communications, industrial, test and measurement, broadcast and portable battery-powered equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Efficiencies of up to 98% minimise internal losses and allow the i7A to operate in ambient temperatures of -40\u00b0C to +125\u00b0C, even with low airflow conditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The i7A\u2019s design provides low output ripple and excellent response to dynamic loads. Very few external components are required, compared to discrete solutions, saving cost and printed circuit board space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A choice of three mechanical configurations is available, measuring just 34mm wide and 36.8mm in length. The 11.5mm high open-frame model is suitable for applications requiring a very low profile. The baseplate version for conduction cooling to a cold plate is 12.7mm high.
