{"id":1988,"date":"2017-10-26T06:17:46","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T05:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=1988"},"modified":"2017-10-30T07:43:57","modified_gmt":"2017-10-30T07:43:57","slug":"bloodhound-ssc-gathers-speed-with-renishaw-sponsorship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/bloodhound-ssc-gathers-speed-with-renishaw-sponsorship\/","title":{"rendered":"Bloodhound SSC gathers speed with Renishaw sponsorship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Supersonic car Bloodhound SSC, designed to break the world land speed record by reaching 1000 mph, will today take to the runway for its first test in Newquay, UK.<\/p>\n<p>Global engineering technologies company,<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.renishaw.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Renishaw<\/a><\/span>has been named as a stripe sponsor for the car and an education sponsor for the Bloodhound project.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe stripe sponsorship builds on <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/inspiring-future-engineers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Renishaw<\/a><\/span>\u2019s work to additively manufacture crucial components on the car and demonstrates its continued support for the project, which shares Renishaw\u2019s focus on technical innovations and inspiring the next generation of engineers.<\/p>\n<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/renishaw-director-recognised-for-outstanding-contribution-to-engineering\/\">Renishaw<\/a><\/span> has been involved with the project as a product sponsor since 2013, using its additive manufacturing expertise to create the titanium nose tip, which will be the first part of the car to cross the finish line, on its own metal additive manufacturing system.<\/p>\n<p>The company has also additively manufactured the car\u2019s titanium steering wheel, designed specifically to match the contours of driver, Andy Green\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n<p>As a part of its new sponsorship package,<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/formnext-2017-renishaw-demonstrates-productive-additive-manufacturing\/\">Renishaw<\/a><\/span> will attend the Newquay Public Day on Saturday 28th October and Education Day on Monday 30th October to support the Bloodhound Project\u2019s goal of inspiring a new generation of engineers.<\/p>\n<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/100-budding-engineers-get-an-experience-of-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Renishaw<\/a><\/span> already offers an extensive education outreach programme across South Wales and Gloucestershire to encourage young people into engineering.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, the company held a Bloodhound open day at its Gloucestershire headquarters, where 150 primary school children were able to see a full-scale model of the car to get them excited and engaged with the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe car is an incredible feat of engineering and as the only UK manufacturer of metal additive manufacturing machines, it is fantastic to contribute to the iconic project both technically and financially,\u201d explained Chris Pockett, Head of Communications at<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/renishaw-apprentice-shortlisted-in-apprenticeship-awards-cymru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Renishaw<\/a><\/span>. \u201cLandmark projects have in the past had a demonstrable impact on engaging young people in science and engineering.
