{"id":2075,"date":"2017-10-31T08:36:40","date_gmt":"2017-10-31T08:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=2075"},"modified":"2017-10-31T08:36:40","modified_gmt":"2017-10-31T08:36:40","slug":"engineers-reveal-why-their-job-search-is-stressing-them-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/engineers-reveal-why-their-job-search-is-stressing-them-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Engineers reveal why their job search is stressing them out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National Stress Awareness Day is upon us, and a recent study has revealed that the majority of workers in the engineering sector (75.8%) admit that looking for a new job always or frequently makes them feel stressed.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s according to a recent survey from <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tracking.cv-library.co.uk\/tracking\/click?msgid=IVuszLn80tYqyw8JJo_p7A2&amp;target=http%3a%2f%2fwww.cv-library.co.uk%2f&amp;v=-yLZUb5kP3qQ6-6y6ll8ig2&amp;lc=925271213872414837&gt;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, the UK\u2019s leading independent job site, which also found that 82.3% of professionals in the industry believe that job hunting stress is a real problem facing today\u2019s workforce.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe study of 1,200 workers sought to discover the impact that job hunting has on today\u2019s professionals and what it is that they find most challenging.<\/p>\n<p>Participants in the engineering sector were asked to share the aspects of looking for a job that cause them to feel most stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Respondents cited the following:<\/p>\n<p>1. Finding a role that matches my needs \u2013 74%<br \/>\n2. Tailoring my CV and cover letter for each application \u2013 56%<br \/>\n3. Being rejected for roles that I&#8217;ve applied for \u2013 54%<br \/>\n4. Dealing with recruiters \u2013 24%<br \/>\n5. Having to take time out of work to attend interviews \u2013 20%<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, engineers revealed the areas of job hunting that often leave them feeling disheartened.<\/p>\n<p>Not hearing anything back from an application (48.5%), not finding any suitable roles (24.2%) and being turned down for a role they really want (13.6%) were the top reasons professionals in the industry were feeling discouraged during their search.<\/p>\n<p>Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of\u00a0CV-Library, comments: \u201cWorkplace stress is something we often hear about, but very rarely do we talk about the stress that can be caused as a result of job hunting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese feelings are very real, and it\u2019s clear from the data that professionals in the engineering sector can become extremely disheartened when the job search becomes overwhelming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking for a new job is an exciting time, but the strain of the search is detracting from this experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re looking for a new job, be sure to start your search with a positive and open mind. The road to your dream job can be a long one, but it\u2019s worth putting the time in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough there are times it can feel like a tedious process, putting in the effort early on to perfect your CV, cover letter etc. really can help to reduce job search stress further down the line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a bid to find a solution to their anguish, engineering professionals were asked what they think can be done to combat job hunting stress. Two key measures were identified.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly half (45.1%) of workers agreed recruiters should always offer feedback and a further 35.3% believe that candidates should always be sent an acknowledgment email, even if their application isn&#8217;t successful.<\/p>\n<p>Biggins concludes: \u201cIt\u2019s clear from the data that job hunters in the engineering sector are becoming increasingly put out by not hearing back from their applications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you haven\u2019t had any feedback, don\u2019t be afraid to send recruiters a follow up email, or better yet, give them a call.
