{"id":20947,"date":"2022-02-16T10:42:23","date_gmt":"2022-02-16T10:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=20947"},"modified":"2022-02-16T10:42:24","modified_gmt":"2022-02-16T10:42:24","slug":"two-phase-voltage-regulator-module-for-ai-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/two-phase-voltage-regulator-module-for-ai-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Two-phase voltage regulator module for AI applications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/flexpowermodules.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flex Power Modules<\/a><\/strong> announces the BMR510, its first two-phase voltage regulator module, with a continuous total output current of 80A and capable of delivering a total of 140A peak output at 0.5-1.3V from an input of 4.5-16 V.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At less than 0.7 cm3 (10 x 9 x 7.6 mm) the module provides a complete power stage, including magnetics, for a highly-specified voltage regulator module in space-constrained applications.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Target end-use is to power silicon devices such as CPUs, GPUs, IPUs, high-end FPGAs and high-performing ASICs with a current demand of over 100 A, commonly found in the latest artificial intelligence (AI) applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The halogen-free BMR510 is optimised for top-side cooling, and features LGA or optionally solder-bump terminations for easy assembly. Over-temperature and over-current protection are included, and values are sensed for remote monitoring. An enable input is provided and the module will accept tri-state PWM inputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thermal models are available for the part to enable effective integration in the target application. The BMR510 will be released for production in Q1\/22 and samples are available now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two-phase BMR510 will be the first of many new VRMs from Flex Power Modules. Future devices will offer different variations of total number of phases, available output current and footprints, to support both current and next-generation CPUs and GPUs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Olle Hellgren, Product Manager at Flex Power Modules comments \u201cWe have targeted the BMR510 at power-hungry silicon in products with tight space constraints but without performance compromise.
