{"id":22114,"date":"2022-06-22T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-22T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=22114"},"modified":"2022-06-21T17:07:04","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T16:07:04","slug":"international-women-in-engineering-day-more-women-and-girls-should-explore-the-opportunities-within-the-engineering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/international-women-in-engineering-day-more-women-and-girls-should-explore-the-opportunities-within-the-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"International Women in Engineering Day: more women and girls should explore the opportunities within engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The boss of an internationally renowned engineering company said she wants to see more women in the industry to mark International Women in Engineering Day (23rd June).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rachel Garrett is managing director of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmgtechnologies.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CMG Technologies<\/a><\/strong>, a metal injection moulding (MIM) and metal 3D printing specialist, which creates vital intricate parts for sectors including medical, industrial, aerospace and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She often notices she is only woman at industry meetings, but she wants other females to recognise the opportunities in the sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While data from EngineeringUK shows the percentage of women in engineering increased from 10.5% in 2010 to 16.5% in 2021, the industry is still heavily male-dominated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miss Garrett said: &#8220;It&#8217;s good to know there has been an increase but I&#8217;d like to see a lot more. Image: CMG Technologies and Bob Foyers Photography<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There is a wealth of opportunities across the sector, and I hate the thought of talented individuals missing out because they think the industry isn&#8217;t for them \u2013 it&#8217;s for everyone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Engineering has the ability to change the world and it&#8217;s incredible to be a part of that. I strongly encourage women and girls to explore the opportunities available in the sector.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rachel worked in the factory of then Egide UK while she was at university, gaining an understanding of the manufacturing process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She later joined the company in a sales and marketing role before working her way up and completing a management buyout in 2013, trading as CMG Technologies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, Rachel has been instrumental in boosting profits, implementing a four-day work week and winning awards for innovation and wellbeing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miss Garrett has also been named in the Timewise Power List, a collection of the UK&#8217;s most successful people working part-time hours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added: &#8220;The opportunities in engineering are incredibly vast, from practical factory-based roles to marketing, admin and more. There really is something for everyone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important to find a career you love, as I&#8217;m fortunate to have done for myself.
