Other key findings include:<\/p>\n<p>* One third (30.5%) of engineering professionals feel they\u2019re not taken seriously at work, because of their age<\/p>\n<p>* With a further 61.1% stating that they have been discriminated against at work because they were considered \u2018too old\u2019<\/p>\n<p>* AND, 33.3% of professionals working in the sector were discriminated against for being \u2018too young\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/is-it-time-we-ditched-the-traditional-9-to-5-engineering-professionals-think-so\/\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, comments: \u201cDiversity is a hot topic at the moment, and it is something that should be celebrated in the workplace. Sadly, there is clearly still a great amount of discrimination amongst those considered to be \u2018too old\u2019 or \u2018too young\u2019 to work in certain positions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a nation, we need to address this issue head on, and consider ways in which we can remove these stigmas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of those that said they were considered to be \u2018too young\u2019 for a job, 66.7% were told that they didn\u2019t have enough experience.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, for those considered to be \u2018too old\u2019, 27.3% heard that there were concerns that they wouldn\u2019t be able to learn new things quickly, and that they wouldn\u2019t be agile enough for the job (18.2%).<\/p>\n<p>Biggins continues: \u201cIt\u2019s clear that discrimination around age is not only rife in workplaces, but also during the hiring process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, while employers may think their pickiness will secure them the very best workers, they\u2019re actually limiting themselves even further.
