Reliance O2C Ltd is the designated operator of this project, while Reliance Industries Ltd holds 100% equity stake. The project is expected to start operations in 2030.

The “Madras Fertilizers Manali Ammonia Plant 2” is another important project in India, expected to commence operations in 2030. Madras Fertilizers Ltd is planning this project in Tamil Nadu and holds a 100% equity stake.

Other noteworthy projects in India include the “Talcher Fertilizers Talcher Ammonia Plant” and the “Matix Fertilisers & Chemicals Panagarh Ammonia Plant 2”. Proposed by Talcher Fertilizers Ltd and Matix Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd, respectively, these projects are expected to come online in 2027 and 2029, respectively.

Roy concludes: “Overall, India’s ammonia capacity expansion reflects the country’s strategic focus on strengthening fertilizer security, reducing import dependence, and advancing its clean energy transition. With mega projects being planned by players such as Reliance Industries and Madras Fertilizers, the country is expected to play a significant role in global ammonia capacity growth by 2030, supporting both domestic agricultural demand and the emerging market for low-carbon ammonia.”

India is poised to witness significant ammonia capacity additions by 2030, primarily driven by the need to ensure food security, reduce import reliance, and meet net-zero targets.
