The report also warns that power, labor and equipment bottlenecks could lengthen the time between capital commitments and operational data centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Nikolajus Gavrilinas, CEO of femtosecond laser manufacturer\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/email.cisionone.cision.com\/c\/eJwszD2u6yAQQOHVQEfEMDDggiJNthHxM35BsZ0E0PP2r3J123Okr0YTitWSI_hADoIBlI8IOlj2COviEyZPKy2FtSG_ZodLZtkiJV8gZaIKgHdIxZJ2AQmTsHq0ys_2UXtqG_ehfC51zc65ot59mZ_Ld8gtPuZ8D4FXYW7C3M7zvGxttq3NS3ntwtzkzrUl1XnjNFi1Gn_D_S8IvCJCIJI9tmN9Cav5-NcO5n7wOQ6e56s_v5YcszPvX4E8WVjIqloIlIVCKqNLqgQdQknorGX5P5qfAAAA___WOlb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LITILIT<\/a>,<\/strong> one of the less visible bottlenecks could be the precision tools needed to manufacture components for next-generation data centre equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Many advanced AI components, from semiconductor packages, glass substrates, to optical interconnects and advanced PCBs, require manufacturing technologies that can process materials without introducing heat damage. Femtosecond lasers are becoming one of the key enabling tools for this transition, and we believe demand will grow rapidly as AI manufacturing scales,&#8221; Gavrilinas says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, one of the biggest issues in making data centres more efficient is speeding up data transfers. TrendForce recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/email.cisionone.cision.com\/c\/eJwskE2u4yAQBk8DOyyanzZZsHgbXyPCTXuCYuME0Pj6I4_etj6pPqlyNIGclhxhDughGLDyFZ0nYoYtWe-8setqnd8yA2W36i2ALBHTTJBWxAxgn5DIofbBok3C6V4yv8tXHans3LqaV8rb6r0n9WmP8Z3uQe7xNcanC_sjzCLMcl3XNBrXvJ2NeKLzEGb5NO6duA5uwiyVry7MYrRBjeAVWP0I02scuzw4l6Qa75w6q5Ljf_D8BcL-WAsBUbZY6nYKp7n-KZW53c7K4zrb-_6UfTTm4zbgjA4e6FQmBOWAUK3WJ0VBh0B3HMfybzT_AgAA__9OhWUd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>forecast<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that the market for co-packaged and near-packaged optics &#8211; optical connections that speed up data transfer &#8211; will grow from around $100 million in 2025 to over $39 billion by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Gavrilinas, femtosecond lasers are increasingly used to make components for equipment that enables faster data transfer. For example, they can be used to make glass interposers \u2013 wiring layers used in advanced AI hardware and data center equipment to help connect chiplets. The laser drills microscopic holes through the glass, which are then filled with copper and turned into tiny vertical connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;A normal laser or mechanical drill heats the material as it cuts, and glass can crack or chip when heated unevenly. A femtosecond laser fires pulses so short \u2013 quadrillionths of a second \u2013 that the surrounding glass has almost no time to heat up.
