One in four engineers dread the work Christmas party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The festive season is upon us, and that can only mean one thing \u2013 the work Christmas party!<\/p>\n<p>Yet a new study from <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cv-library.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, the UK independent job site, has revealed that one in four (25.3%) engineering professionals admit to dreading the office party.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe survey of 1,300 UK professionals, explored the views of workers when it came to the work Christmas party and found that over one third (37.3%) of engineers confessed to often getting drunk at these events.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, one in four (24.1%) have made a fool of themselves as a result.<\/p>\n<p>The top causes for post-Christmas party embarrassment include:<\/p>\n<p>* Embarrassing yourself dancing \u2013 31.6%<\/p>\n<p>* Falling over in front of your co-workers \u2013 16%<\/p>\n<p>* Embarrassing yourself in front of the boss \u2013 15.8%<\/p>\n<p>* Throwing up in front of people \u2013 15%<\/p>\n<p>* Kissing one of your colleagues \u2013 10.5%<\/p>\n<p>However, despite these blunders, almost two thirds (61.4%) of engineers admit that they do enjoy these events. What\u2019s more, 39.8% said that their employer does put a lot of effort into preparing the work Christmas party.<\/p>\n<p>Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/three-quarters-of-engineering-professionals-say-age-discrimination-is-common-in-their-workplace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, comments: \u201cThe Christmas party is a great opportunity to not only celebrate the festive season, but also a year of hard work from everyone in the business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a shame to see that so many workers in the engineering sector are becoming nervous beforehand, especially given that it\u2019s supposed to be a fun event for staff to let their hair down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough there are a number of hypothetically embarrassing situations that can arise when spending time with your colleagues, these should not stop you from enjoying yourself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParties and drinking alcohol often come hand-in-hand, so if you\u2019re wary of your behaviour after you\u2019ve had a few to drink, take it slow and stay in control. But most importantly, just enjoy yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey also asked respondents whether they get dressed up for the Christmas party, with 57.8% of engineers saying that they do. That said, over one in 10 (14.9%) confessed that they don\u2019t enjoy doing so.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, almost two-thirds (62.2%) said that they would not dress more conservatively than normal, despite this being a work event.<\/p>\n<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/is-it-time-we-ditched-the-traditional-9-to-5-engineering-professionals-think-so\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span> also shares its top tips to Christmas party success, below:<\/p>\n<p>1. Know your limits \u2013The temptation to drink away your nerves or have a few shots with your co-workers may be inviting. But remember, if you want to avoid any potentially embarrassing drink-related incidents, then stay safely in the bounds of your limits.<\/p>\n<p>2. Remain professional \u2013 Just because you are no longer in the office, this doesn\u2019t mean you shouldn\u2019t act professionally. Avoid office gossip and certainly don\u2019t divulge any confidential information after a few too many glasses of mulled wine.<\/p>\n<p>3. Dress appropriately \u2013 It\u2019s Christmas and you\u2019re not in office attire, so it\u2019s nice to be able to dress up a bit more than usual. But don\u2019t go too over the top. Remember these are still your colleagues. Plus dressing more conservatively could help to avoid any embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions throughout the night.<\/p>\n<p>4. Make an effort &#8211; It\u2019s clear that some people dread the Christmas party, but even if you\u2019re not really feeling it this year, it\u2019s important to go \u2013 even if it\u2019s just for an hour. This is a great opportunity to celebrate your hard work and get to know your colleagues better.<\/p>\n<p>5. Don\u2019t talk shop \u2013 And finally, you may be with people from work \u2013 but try to avoid talking about it.
