{"id":3374,"date":"2017-12-14T11:23:48","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T11:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=3374"},"modified":"2017-12-14T11:24:51","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T11:24:51","slug":"machine-investment-extends-cold-forming-capabilities-at-dawson-shanahan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/machine-investment-extends-cold-forming-capabilities-at-dawson-shanahan\/","title":{"rendered":"Machine investment extends cold forming capabilities at Dawson Shanahan"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawson-shanahan.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dawson Shanahan<\/a><\/span> has further boosted its capabilities in cold forming by investing in a high-throughput Formax machine.<\/p>\n<p>This takes the company\u2019s investment in new machinery to \u00a3500,000 for the third year in a row.<\/p>\n<p>Additional investments have been made in the company\u2019s turning, milling and grinding capabilities, as well as in metrology and cleaning systems.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script> <ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins> <script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The Formax FX54M is a four-die, high-speed cold former that will boost output while extending Dawson\u2019s offering to customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investment will help us broaden our offering to customers, extending the range of work that we can do for them,\u201d says Les Reeves, joint managing director of Dawson Shanahan.<\/p>\n<p>The Formax FX54M, which is larger than any other of Dawson\u2019s cold forming machines, will extend the company\u2019s capability in two ways: its increased size will allow Dawson to make larger cold-formed parts; and its throughput of up to 190 pieces per minute will help raise overall production capacity.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Formax FX54M is specially designed to allow fast tool changeovers.<\/p>\n<p>Tools can be pre-set \u2013 using a second tool pack on a jig \u2013 while a production batch is still running.<\/p>\n<p>Because the model includes pre-programmed, die-side ejection, tools can then be changed in as little as 20 minutes \u2013 a small fraction of the usual four hours required to change tools on a standard four-die header.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, faster tool changeovers will reduce machine downtime and help to raise production output.<\/p>\n<p>An added bonus of this arrangement is that \u2013 with careful production scheduling \u2013 a third and fourth Die Pack allow Dawson to accommodate smaller batch quantities, with shorter run times.
