text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\n<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/secondhands.eu\">SecondHands<\/a><\/span>is an EU-funded Horizon 2020 project aiming to design a cobot that can proactively offer support to maintenance technicians working in Ocado\u2019s CFCs.<\/p>\n<p>This robot will be a second pair of hands that will assist technicians when they are in need of help.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SecondHands-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3839\" src=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SecondHands-3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SecondHands-3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SecondHands-3-800x533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SecondHands-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SecondHands-3-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a>The robot will learn through observation and will augment the humans&#8217; capabilities by completing tasks that require a level of precision or physical strength that are not available to human workers.<\/p>\n<p>The SecondHands project combines the skills of world class researchers focusing on a real-world industrial use case to deliver:<\/p>\n<p>* The design of a new robotic assistant<\/p>\n<p>* A knowledge base to facilitate proactive help<\/p>\n<p>* A high degree of human-robot interaction<\/p>\n<p>* Advanced perception skills to function in a highly dynamic industrial environment<\/p>\n<p>Together with its research partners \u00c9cole Polytechnique F\u00e9d\u00e9rale de Lausanne (EPFL), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Sapienza Universit\u00e0 di Roma, and University College London (UCL), Ocado Technology is working to advance the technology readiness of areas such as computer vision and cognition, human-robot interaction, mechatronics, and perception and ultimately demonstrate how versatile and productive human-robot collaboration can be in practice.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a summary of the research contributions for each of the project partners:<\/p>\n<p>* EPFL: human-robot physical interaction with bi-manipulation, including action skills learning<\/p>\n<p>* KIT (H\u00b2T): Development of the ARMAR-6 robot including its entire mechatronics, software operating system and control as well as robot grasping and manipulation skills<\/p>\n<p>* KIT (Interactive Systems Lab, ISL): the spoken dialog management system<\/p>\n<p>* Sapienza University of Rome: visual scene perception with human action recognition, cognitive decision making, task planning and execution with continuous monitoring<\/p>\n<p>* UCL: computer vision techniques for 3D human pose estimation and semantic 3D reconstruction of dynamic scene<\/p>\n<p>* Ocado Technology: integration of researched functionality on the robot platform and evaluation in real-world demonstrations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SecondHands project is presenting the first prototype of its collaborative robot (cobot) which will act as the main platform for testing and developing new technologies related to the maintenance and repair of automation equipment in Ocado\u2019s highly automated warehouses.
