text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script><br \/>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<br \/>\n<\/script><br \/>\nThis achievement further strengthens <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/x-fab-introduce-eflash-block-optimised-for-energy-harvesting-and-iot-devices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">X-FAB<\/a><\/span>\u2019s long-established reputation for quality and reliability in the automotive industry, as well as its standing among semiconductor manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1992, the company has consistently met or exceeded the exacting demands for automotive semiconductors, with more than 17 billion X-FAB automotive devices shipped to date.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 50% of the company\u2019s business is related to the automotive market and on average there are now 10 ICs produced by X-FAB in every newly manufactured vehicle worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Up until now <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/transistors-improve-flicker-noise-up-to-a-factor-of-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">X-FAB<\/a><\/span>\u2019s manufacturing sites were qualified according to ISO TS 16949 which is now superseded by the IATF-16949 standard and is implemented as a supplement to, and in conjunction with ISO 9001.<\/p>\n<p>Among the enhancements are additional requirements for business procedures, cleanliness, ethics, training, supplier and customer communications, plus detailed record keeping \u2013 all of which have always been deeply engrained within X-FAB\u2019s corporate culture.<\/p>\n<p>Certification for IATF 16949 requires automotive suppliers throughout the entire supply chain to perform and record all processes and activities in a common standardised format, as well as documenting all process changes and events in a timely manner.<\/p>\n<p>For semiconductor manufacturers this improves production throughput and product quality, resulting in greater reliability and yield enhancement.<\/p>\n<p>The semiconductor content in today\u2019s cars continues to grow, driven by improvements in passenger safety as well as advancements in driver automation, collision avoidance, vehicle navigation and passenger infotainment.<\/p>\n<p>While semiconductor content in the average automobile is increasing rapidly, almost doubling over the course of the past decade, quality requirements have evolved from 0ppm to zero incidents throughout the entire supply chain.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4521\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4521\" style=\"width: 618px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/X-FAB_PR12_Image_2_HRES.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4521 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/X-FAB_PR12_Image_2_HRES-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/X-FAB_PR12_Image_2_HRES-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/X-FAB_PR12_Image_2_HRES-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/X-FAB_PR12_Image_2_HRES-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/X-FAB_PR12_Image_2_HRES-800x533.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4521\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Frank Lorenz, VP Quality at X-FAB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to Frank Lorenz, VP Quality at X-FAB: &#8220;Process orientation, interdisciplinary work and continuous improvement combined with intensive customer collaboration are the key elements in achieving our goal of zero incidents throughout the automotive supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe IATF-16949 quality certification is an important milestone in our 25 years of foundry experience, demonstrating our commitment to quality and reliability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur entire organisation is enthusiastically behind this effort, and with this new IATF certificate we can move forward with further improving our offering in order to provide greater value for our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Five of X-FAB\u2019s six manufacturing sites on three continents are now IATF-16949 certified: Erfurt, Dresden and Itzehoe in Germany; Kuching in Malaysia and Lubbock TX, USA.
