{"id":4658,"date":"2018-02-14T09:53:55","date_gmt":"2018-02-14T09:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=4658"},"modified":"2018-02-14T09:53:55","modified_gmt":"2018-02-14T09:53:55","slug":"not-feeling-the-love-for-your-job-this-valentines-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/not-feeling-the-love-for-your-job-this-valentines-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Not feeling the love for your job this Valentine&#8217;s Day?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While some may be feeling the love this Valentine\u2019s Day, recent research from <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cv-library.co.uk\/search-cvs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, the UK independent job site, has found that the majority of engineering professionals have fallen out of love with their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, over half (58.2%) confessed that they aren\u2019t happy in their current roles, despite 88.8% believing that it\u2019s important to love what you do.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe survey of more than 1,200 workers sought to reveal how professionals felt about their current jobs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4660\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4660\" style=\"width: 618px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/heart-154514_1280.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4660\" src=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/heart-154514_1280-975x1024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"649\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/heart-154514_1280-975x1024.png 975w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/heart-154514_1280-286x300.png 286w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/heart-154514_1280-768x806.png 768w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/heart-154514_1280-800x840.png 800w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/heart-154514_1280.png 1219w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4660\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Pixabay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Despite many being unhappy in their roles, over half (57.5%) of those in engineering agreed that quitting isn\u2019t always the best solution.<\/p>\n<p>When asked to identify why they dislike their position, respondents cited the following:<\/p>\n<p>* Poor company culture \u2013 51.1%<br \/>\n* No room for progression \u2013 35.6%<br \/>\n* Poor work-life balance \u2013 26.7%<br \/>\n* Not being paid enough \u2013 23%<br \/>\n* Boring daily routine \u2013 22.2%<br \/>\n* Having a long commute \u2013 21.9%<br \/>\n* Disliking the boss \u2013 17.8%<br \/>\n* Issues in private life affecting work life \u2013 11.1%<br \/>\n* Disliking the working hours \u2013 8.9%<br \/>\n* Disliking colleagues \u2013 6.7%<\/p>\n<p>Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/engineers-rely-on-colleagues-for-personal-and-professional-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, comments:\u201cIt\u2019s worrying to learn that so many engineering professionals are unhappy in their current roles. Job satisfaction plays an important part of keeping staff motivated and productive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an employer, it\u2019s vital that you are able to spot the signs of dissatisfaction or low morale and combat these issues right away. Tackling these early on can help to get staff back on track and start enjoying their work again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s clear that company culture, pay and progression are important to professionals in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBe sure that you\u2019re offering fair and competitive packages and that these tie in with creating a great working environment. Hosting social events is a great way to help staff blow off steam and build good relationships with their co-workers. This also goes a long way towards creating a great company culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, 52.4% of engineering professionals said that you should always take positive steps to try and make things better before you give up on your job.<\/p>\n<p>Respondents revealed what they believe are the top ways to address problems at work, with speaking to your manager (55%) coming out on top. This was followed by reflecting on what\u2019s making you unhappy (48.8%), speaking to a trusted colleagues (26.3%) and adopting a better work-life balance (23.8%).<\/p>\n<p>Biggins concludes:\u201cIt\u2019s great to see that engineering professionals aren\u2019t giving up without a fight, with many recognising that quitting is not always the answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing able to speak openly about your job is important and as such, employers need to keep the lines of communication open if they hope to address any issues in a timely and effective manner.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While some may be feeling the love this Valentine\u2019s Day, recent research from CV-Library, the UK independent job site, has found that the majority of engineering professionals have fallen out of love with their jobs.
