{"id":4966,"date":"2018-02-26T09:14:44","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T09:14:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=4966"},"modified":"2018-02-26T09:14:44","modified_gmt":"2018-02-26T09:14:44","slug":"two-thirds-of-engineering-professionals-place-a-good-salary-as-their-top-career-priority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/two-thirds-of-engineering-professionals-place-a-good-salary-as-their-top-career-priority\/","title":{"rendered":"Two thirds of engineering professionals place a \u2018good salary\u2019 as their top career priority"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>January saw application rates soar by a staggering 74.8% across the engineering sector, suggesting that many job hunters are on the lookout for their next opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>With this in mind, <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cv-library.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, the UK independent job site, sought to reveal what professionals value most in a job, with a good salary (67.5%) and friendly colleagues (46.3%) topping the list.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe survey of over 1,200 workers revealed that almost half (41.9%) of engineering professionals are unhappy in their current roles.<\/p>\n<p>This job dissatisfaction could be one of the driving factors behind last month\u2019s hike in application rates.<\/p>\n<p>When asked to share what they believe to be the biggest contributing factors to their own workplace happiness, professionals revealed that their top career priorities include:<\/p>\n<p>* A good salary \u2013 67.5%<br \/>\n* Friendly colleagues \u2013 46.3%<br \/>\n* Room for progression \u2013 45%<br \/>\n* Great company culture \u2013 41.3%<br \/>\n* Learning new skills \u2013 23.8%<br \/>\n* A nice boss \u2013 18.8%<br \/>\n* Good location close to home \u2013 11.3%<br \/>\n* Interesting daily responsibilities \u2013 15%<br \/>\n* Flexible working opportunities \u2013 8.8%<br \/>\nGood workplace perks \u2013 5%<\/p>\n<p>Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/engineers-rely-on-colleagues-for-personal-and-professional-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, comments:\u201cCandidates are storming the job market like never before and it\u2019s clear that many are searching for roles with a strict set of criteria in mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs such, it\u2019s important that businesses are offering the full package. But this doesn\u2019t just mean fair salaries and workplace perks. A great company culture and a friendly workforce should also be a priority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, when comparing these factors with data from February 2016, the findings suggest that that there has been a shift in the career priorities of UK professionals.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the job role and its responsibilities was the number one career priority for workers two years ago (54.4%), shortly followed by salary (45.6%).<\/p>\n<p>Biggins concludes:\u201cIt\u2019s interesting to see this shift in career priorities, with professionals no longer placing as much importance on the role itself. It\u2019s definitely important to enjoy what you do and this should always be a priority when moving jobs.
