{"id":5227,"date":"2018-03-05T11:48:44","date_gmt":"2018-03-05T11:48:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=5227"},"modified":"2018-03-05T11:51:06","modified_gmt":"2018-03-05T11:51:06","slug":"ukiva-machine-vision-conference-and-exhibition-crucial-factors-for-driverless-cars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/ukiva-machine-vision-conference-and-exhibition-crucial-factors-for-driverless-cars\/","title":{"rendered":"UKIVA Machine Vision Conference and Exhibition: crucial factors for driverless cars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Tony Pipe, Deputy Director at Bristol Robotics Laboratory, University of the West of England, will get the morning session of the <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ukiva.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UKIVA Machine Vision Conference and Exhibition<\/a><\/span> underway with a keynote presentation about the Venturer driverless cars project.<\/p>\n<p>The Venturer Consortium, led by SNC-Lavalin\u2019s Atkins, consists of 10 public, private and academic experts, including BAE Systems, Williams and Bristol Robotics Laboratory.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThis project assesses the responses of passengers and other road users to driverless cars as well as looking at the enabling technology and developing an understanding of the insurance and legal implications of increased vehicle autonomy.<\/p>\n<p>These are all crucial factors that will influence wide scale adoption of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) capability.<\/p>\n<p>Two practical trials using the consortium\u2019s autonomous vehicle, BAE Systems Wildcat, have already been completed.<\/p>\n<p>The first was carried out in the Williams Advanced Engineering simulator and the second on roads under carefully controlled conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The Wildcat is equipped with a situational awareness system utilising complementary sensor technologies including radar and cameras.<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/ukiva-machine-vision-conference-and-exhibition-robots-cameras-radar-create-awareness-bubble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conference and Exhibition<\/a><\/span> will be held at Arena MK, Milton Keynes, UK, on Wednesday 16th May 2018.<\/p>\n<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/ukiva-machine-vision-2018-visual-inspection-of-round-unaligned-packages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UKIVA<\/a><\/span> Chairman, Paul Wilson, commented: \u201cWe are delighted that Professor Pipe has agreed to give this keynote speech and we now have two keynotes that are looking at very different types of autonomous vehicles.
