{"id":5379,"date":"2018-03-08T11:44:37","date_gmt":"2018-03-08T11:44:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=5379"},"modified":"2018-03-08T11:44:37","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T11:44:37","slug":"high-efficiency-controller-solutions-for-led-lighting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/high-efficiency-controller-solutions-for-led-lighting\/","title":{"rendered":"High efficiency controller solutions for LED lighting"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.onsemi.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ON Semiconductor<\/a><\/span> has announced two new QR PSR PWM controllers\u00a0for\u00a0LED lighting \u00a0with Power Factor Control (PFC) function.<\/p>\n<p>The dimmable NCL30386 and the non-dimmable NCL30388 provide market-leading options for designers of\u00a0LED lighting\u00a0units such as luminaires used in office and\u00a0industrial building applications.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nBoth devices are high power factor (PF), single stage, constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) primary side regulated (PSR) pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers for Flyback, Buck-Boost or Sepic power topologies.<\/p>\n<p>They operate in Quasi-Resonant (QR) mode to achieve efficiency levels that exceed those stipulated in power standards such as the EU\u2019s Ecodesign as well as ENERGY STAR and the NEMA SSL regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The integrated digital power factor correction (PFC) algorithm ensures a market-leading PF of greater than 0.95 and total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 10% across a universal input voltage range.<\/p>\n<p>Integrated high voltage startup current source ensures fast startup, low standby power and wide range operation at the output. Current and voltage are regulated via a digital PSR CC\/CV loop control, typically achieving in the region of \u00b12%, to give highly uniform lighting brightness under all conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The devices are simple to use and operate from a wide VCC\u00a0range of 9.2-26 VDC,\u00a0with valley lock-out and frequency foldback ensuringhigh efficiency across the entire voltage range.<\/p>\n<p>Design is further simplified by the inclusion of safety features such as brown-out and overvoltage protection plus the ability to detect short circuits in the output, winding and diode.<\/p>\n<p>Neither the NCL30386 nor the NCL30388 require many external components to complete the design, reducing time-to-market, BoM cost and the space required to realise a complete lighting solution.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the NCL30386 offers excellent dimming features, including the option for either linear or quadratic dimming curves.<\/p>\n<p>The wide analog dimming range is controlled by two dedicated analog \/ PWM control pins that allow for precise dimming with a 0.5% minimum dimming ratio &#8211; and no audible noise present.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the new releases, Ryan Zahn, Director of Marketing and Applications for the AC-DC Business Group at <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/on-semiconductor-expands-solutions-for-industrial-iot-smart-home-and-wearables\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ON Semiconductor<\/a><\/span>, said: \u201cDue to its low power credentials, LED lighting is an important sector and efficient operation is critical to manage costs in the face of rising energy prices and heightened environmental considerations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our new solutions not only deliver market-leading efficiency but also offer designers a high degree of flexibility and the ability to meet and exceed the requirements of prevailing efficiency standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe designer\u2019s task is simplified by the wide range operation, low standby power and fast startup.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the NCL30386 offers very precisely controlled dimming across a wide range, making it an ideal solution for smart lighting installations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NCL30386 and the NCL30388 will be in full production in Q1, 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ON Semiconductor has announced two new QR PSR PWM controllers\u00a0for\u00a0LED lighting \u00a0with Power Factor Control (PFC) function.
