{"id":6079,"date":"2018-03-28T11:38:57","date_gmt":"2018-03-28T10:38:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=6079"},"modified":"2018-03-28T11:38:57","modified_gmt":"2018-03-28T10:38:57","slug":"linear-led-controllers-deliver-efficiency-and-accuracy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/linear-led-controllers-deliver-efficiency-and-accuracy\/","title":{"rendered":"Linear LED controllers deliver efficiency and accuracy"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.diodes.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diodes Incorporated<\/a><\/span> announces the AL5814, AL5817, AL5815 and AL5816 linear LED controllers, delivering dimmable and adjustable drive current for LED strings with more than 80% efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>The AL58xx series provides a low BOM-cost solution for a range of applications in the commercial and industrial areas including signage, instrumentation illumination, lighting of appliance interiors, architectural details and general smart-lighting installations.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nWith an input range of 4.5V to 60V, these devices do not require inductors and maintain good EMI performance, making system integration simpler.<\/p>\n<p>Internal power dissipation is also minimised compared with other designs due to an external power transistor.<\/p>\n<p>The AL58xx series is capable of providing up to 15mA to an external MOSFET or bipolar transistor to drive LED strings.<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/60v-1a-buck-led-driver-adds-dimming-for-commercial-lighting\/\">LED<\/a><\/span> drive current is configured by an external resistor with 4% reference voltage accuracy and excellent temperature stability.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the AL5815 and AL5816 devices support PWM diming, while the AL5814 and AL5817 devices support both analog and PWM dimming. Protection features include over-temperature and input under-voltage lock-out.<\/p>\n<p>The AL5814 and AL5817 devices also provide &#8216;LED open&#8217; protection via a VFAULT pin, as well as LED thermal fold-back protection.<\/p>\n<p>As linear LED controllers, the AL58xx series exhibits good EMI performance, while the wide operating temperature range of -40\u00b0C to +105\u00b0C enables the parts to also be used in harsh environments.<\/p>\n<p>The AL58xx series is available in SOT-25 and thermally-enhanced MSOP-8EP packages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Diodes Incorporated announces the AL5814, AL5817, AL5815 and AL5816 linear LED controllers, delivering dimmable and adjustable drive current for LED strings with more than 80% efficiency.
