This ensures that the mechanisms are operated accordingly, allowing aircraft to ascend and descend safely.<\/p>\n<p>Gears for aviation therefore need high positioning accuracy and zero backlash in order for the PPU sensors to have a smooth movement and provide precise feedback.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nAs the tips of aircraft wings are exposed to very cold conditions during flight, it is important that the gears function at low temperature to ensure consistently high quality operation.<\/p>\n<p>Precision gearing specialist <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/harmonicdrive.de\/en\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harmonic Drive UK<\/a><\/span> will be exhibiting its range of high precision gears at this year\u2019s Farnborough International Airshow.<\/p>\n<p>The company will be on Stand 4026 in Hall 4 from July 16th to 22nd to advise aerospace manufacturers on the best gearing system for their product.<\/p>\n<p>More than 40 years ago, the first Harmonic Drive UK gears were sent into space during the Apollo 15 mission.<\/p>\n<p>Having been involved in the aerospace industry ever since, Harmonic Drive has developed a range of gears specifically designed for the needs of the industry and will be exhibiting these at this year\u2019s Farnborough Airshow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lightweight design and repeatability<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Harmonic Drive\u2019s strain wave gears are favoured by many large aerospace companies due to their excellent positioning accuracy, lightweight design and repeatability.<\/p>\n<p>As such, they can be used on a number of aircraft applications such as nose wheel steering, wing flaps and landing gear retractors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA particular trend that visitors to the Farnborough Airshow will notice is aircraft manufacturers moving from hydraulic controls for steering, flaps and lifting the wheels, to electromechanical actuation\u201d, explained Graham Mackrell, managing director of Harmonic Drive UK. \u201cTo achieve high accuracy, electrical actuators must have high precision gears, as Harmonic Drive offers.
