{"id":6324,"date":"2018-04-06T13:00:50","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T12:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=6324"},"modified":"2018-04-05T16:31:19","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T15:31:19","slug":"cesium-clocks-microsemi-portfolio-compliant-with-new-itu-standards-for-enhanced-primary-reference-clock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/cesium-clocks-microsemi-portfolio-compliant-with-new-itu-standards-for-enhanced-primary-reference-clock\/","title":{"rendered":"Cesium clocks: Microsemi portfolio compliant with new ITU standards for enhanced Primary Reference Clock"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsemi.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsemi<\/a><\/span> announces completion of certification of its portfolio of Cesium clocks to be compliant with the new G.811.1 recommendation (known as enhanced Primary Reference Clocks, or ePRC) from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for timing characteristics of enhanced primary reference clocks.<\/p>\n<p>This new standard raises the bar for frequency accuracy by an order of magnitude from 1x10E-11 to 1x10E-12.<\/p>\n<p>All clocks in a network must be referenced to a Primary Reference Source (PRS).<\/p>\n<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/microsemi-announces-availability-of-switchtec-pcie-gen-4-switch-development-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsemi<\/a><\/span>\u2019s cesium frequency standards 5071A, TimeCesium 4400 and TimeCesium 4500 with ePRC compliance provide the highest level of autonomous frequency accuracy for PRS deployment in telecom networks as required by international standards.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nAccording to data from the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), responsible for managing the coordinated universal time (UTC) with time keeping institutions worldwide, and internal research from Microsemi, more than 99% of the Cesium clocks deployed for the world\u2019s time keeping and national time standards are being driven by Microsemi\u2019s cesium products.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/5071A.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6327 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/5071A-1024x623.jpg\" alt=\"Cesium clocks: Microsemi portfolio compliant with new ITU standards for enhanced Primary Reference Clock\" width=\"618\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/5071A-1024x623.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/5071A-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/5071A-768x467.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/5071A-800x487.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/5071A.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Microsemi has introduced a number of solutions providing customers within the\u00a0communications, power utilities, public safety,\u00a0data centre and government network markets with a secure and resilient timing environment, reducing dependency on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).<\/p>\n<p>The foundation of these solutions are <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/microsemi-enables-terabit-otn-switching-cards-for-flexible-optical-networks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsemi<\/a><\/span>\u2019s Cesium atomic clocks, which provide an \u2018autonomous frequency reference\u2019 utilising enhanced timescale algorithms.<\/p>\n<p>As an example, Microsemi\u2019s recently introduced BlueSky GPS Firewall can be connected to a Cesium clock to provide extended holdover by continuing to deliver a synthesised GPS signal to downstream GPS receivers even in the case of complete loss of live sky GPS reception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs next-generation networks increasingly rely more on accurate time to achieve higher transport speeds and increased reliability, the pervasive use of GNSS technology as a time reference has become a major concern because of vulnerabilities to threats such as jamming and spoofing,\u201d said Ramki Ramakrishnan, director of product management at Microsemi. \u201cAs a result, use of Cesium technology as the primary reference clock has become critical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cesium clock technology from <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/microsemi-introduces-new-smart-storage-hbas-and-raid-adapters-for-data-centres\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsemi<\/a><\/span> is utilised in GPS satellites, both in space and ground stations and underpin the rapidly growing GPS market.<\/p>\n<p>The GPS receiver market alone is poised to grow at approximately 16% between 2017-2021 according to Orbis Research, supporting applications in communications, enterprise, defense, automotive and public utility markets with a robust holdover technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsemi announces completion of certification of its portfolio of Cesium clocks to be compliant with the new G.811.1 recommendation (known as enhanced Primary Reference Clocks, or ePRC) from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for timing characteristics of enhanced primary reference clocks.
