{"id":6395,"date":"2018-04-10T12:09:24","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T11:09:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=6395"},"modified":"2018-04-10T12:09:24","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T11:09:24","slug":"micro-oled-displays-for-hand-held-portable-and-wearable-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/micro-oled-displays-for-hand-held-portable-and-wearable-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Micro OLED displays for hand-held, portable and wearable technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Display manufacturer and supplier <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.midasdisplays.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midas Displays<\/a><\/span>\u00a0has announced the introduction of a new range of micro and round OLED displays.<\/p>\n<p>The new OLED displays feature compact mechanical dimensions, exceptional brightness and contrast performance, and three different colour options.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe new micro OLED displays feature highly compact mechanical dimensions enabling these display modules to be used in a wide range of industrial equipment including hand-held, portable and wearable technology applications.<\/p>\n<p>An array of formats and resolutions are available including Portrait mode with 48 x 64 pixel resolution and module dimensions of 13.9mm (w) x 22.0mm (h) x 1.26mm (d), two Landscape mode modules with 64 x 32 pixel and 64 x 48 pixel resolution, and module dimensions of 14.5mm (w) x 11.6mm (h) x 1.26mm (d), and 18.46mm (w) x 18.1mm (h) x 1.3mm (d) respectively, and a Circular mode format with 128 x 128 pixel resolution and module dimensions of 36.98mm (w) x 41.23mm (h) x 2.05mm (d).<\/p>\n<p>All modules are available in three different colour mode options: Blue on Black, White on Black and Yellow on Black.<\/p>\n<p>Excellent optical performance ensures bright, clear and concise images with a contrast ratio of 2000:1 and a specified brightness rating of up to 180cd\/m\u00b2.<\/p>\n<p>Viewing angles of 160\u00b0 in both horizontal (left\/right) and vertical (up\/down) directions ensure the display image is easily visible from all viewing positions. Half-brightness lifetime is specified as up to 50K hours (depending on colour mode).<\/p>\n<p>Paul Banham, marketing director, <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/award-for-innovation-in-display-design-and-manufacturing\/\">Midas Displays<\/a><\/span>, said: &#8220;Our new micro OLED product range has been specifically designed and developed to meet the needs of the industrial market, and as a result the technical specifications, product quality and longevity of supply are in accord with industry requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe OLED technology used in the new modules has been derived from a commercial, wearable product range, and we fully expect demand for the new industrial grade products to be strong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The micro OLED modules feature I\u00b2C, 3\/4 wire SPI and 8-bit 6800\/8080-series Parallel data interfaces and support 3V logic operation.<\/p>\n<p>The modules are fully compatible with the industry-standard SSD1306BZ graphics controller. TAB (Tape Automated Bonding) construction is used in the manufacture of the OLED modules, and an operating and storage temperature range of -40\u00b0C to +80\u00b0C enables reliable operation in extreme environments.<\/p>\n<p>Compact size, low power and exceptional optical performance ensure that the new micro OLED displays are ideal for portable and wearable applications in industrial, commercial, leisure and medical market segments.
