{"id":6455,"date":"2018-04-11T10:39:55","date_gmt":"2018-04-11T09:39:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=6455"},"modified":"2018-04-11T10:39:55","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T09:39:55","slug":"surface-mount-brushed-motor-driver-ic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/surface-mount-brushed-motor-driver-ic\/","title":{"rendered":"Surface-mount brushed motor driver IC"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.toshiba.semicon-storage.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toshiba Electronics Europe<\/a><\/span> has broadened its line-up of small surface-mount brushed motor drivers with the addition of the new TB67H420FTG that supports higher voltage applications such as domestic robotic vacuum cleaners, banking terminals, cash dispenser and other domestic \u00a0equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The brushed motors also used in printers and office equipment require a high power drive to produce the high levels of torque required.<\/p>\n<p>As more applications become automated and use motors, the demand for compact, space-saving solutions increases.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nRealising high-power brushed motor drives requires a high-voltage output, which can strain the driver circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Also brushed motors are unique in that they require support for inrush current that, again, has the potential to strain drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Normally high-power drives are realised with mixed technology using an integrated driver and discrete switching MOSFETs.<\/p>\n<p>However, while this approach is valid, it increases the component count thereby increasing cost and size.<\/p>\n<p>The device is based on <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/toshiba-unveils-next-generation-600v-planar-mosfet-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toshiba<\/a><\/span>\u2019s latest 130nm process technology and incorporates a single output bridge mode that can deliver up to 9.0A at 50V. It also has the ability to control two brushed motors (50V, 4.5A \/ 2 channels), as it incorporates a dual bridge mode that can control each channel independently due to two distinct output channels.<\/p>\n<p>The new TB67H420FTG brushed motor driver supports industry-leading high power drives and contributes to space saving due to its small 7 x 7mm QFN48 surface-mount package.<\/p>\n<p>The inbuilt MOSFETs have ultra-low on-resistance of just 0.17\u00a0\u03a9 in single bridge mode and 0.33\u03a9 in dual bridge mode, thereby ensuring efficient operation and minimal heat generation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Error detection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alongside a current limiter and essential built-in error detections for over temperature, over current and under voltage lock out, the new driver also integrates a frequently requested error detection output, which flags any errors to the system, creating higher levels of safety.<\/p>\n<p>The new brushed motor driver also features <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/toshiba-launches-1-5a-ldo-regulators-in-ultra-small-package\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toshiba<\/a><\/span>\u2019s Advanced Current Detection System (ACDS) that monitors and controls current without the use of sense resistors, thereby saving PCB space and reducing BOM costs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toshiba Electronics Europe has broadened its line-up of small surface-mount brushed motor drivers with the addition of the new TB67H420FTG that supports higher voltage applications such as domestic robotic vacuum cleaners, banking terminals, cash dispenser and other domestic \u00a0equipment.
