{"id":6723,"date":"2018-04-24T07:13:56","date_gmt":"2018-04-24T06:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=6723"},"modified":"2018-04-23T17:15:25","modified_gmt":"2018-04-23T16:15:25","slug":"arduino-partners-with-distrelec-to-launch-automation-and-robotics-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/arduino-partners-with-distrelec-to-launch-automation-and-robotics-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Arduino partners with Distrelec to launch automation and robotics contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arduino has launched a global contest that challenges users of its open-source electronics platform to create innovative products that help advance the development of Industry 4.0 automation and robotics applications.\u00a0The contest is being run in partnership with electronics and automation distributor <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.distrelec.com\/global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Distrelec<\/a><\/span>, and is hosted at the Arduino Project Hub.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-75656620019lko38327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nContestants are required to tap into the extensive range of boards, libraries and online platform available within the Arduino ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>Project ideas for use in industrial automation could target remote control, energy management or predictive maintenance, for example, using the Arduino Create Cloud platform to set up, control and connect Arduino-, Intel- and Arm-based devices.<\/p>\n<p>Robotics projects could include designs for surveillance drones, robotic arms, rovers, or self-drive transportation, using boards such as the Arduino MKR1000 or Arduino Due to read sensors and control motors and actuators for prototyping advanced robotics systems.<\/p>\n<p>Prizes will be awarded based on originality, quality, creativity and the social impact of project entries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Ideas&#8217; phase of the contest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the first &#8216;ideas&#8217; phase of the contest, which involves concept creation, bill of materials, schematics and code, there will be a series of micro contests, with weekly prizes handed out from supporting companies RND Group and Seeed Studio.<\/p>\n<p>Contestants selected to proceed to the second &#8216;build&#8217; phase will each be awarded a Distrelec voucher to the value of 75 Euro to spend on Distrelec online store.<\/p>\n<p>Phase 2 contestants will compete to execute their concepts and present a working solution. The final winning entries will receive:<\/p>\n<p>1st place: Trip to Rome Maker Faire on October 12, 2018, plus a Keithley Tabletop Multimeter<\/p>\n<p>2nd place: Weller Soldering Station and accessories<\/p>\n<p>3rd -10th place: Seeed Studio Grove Starter Kit<\/p>\n<p>Arduino co-founder Massimo Banzi said: &#8220;Innovation is key to the development of industrial automation, data exchange and robotics in today&#8217;s manufacturing technologies.
