{"id":6776,"date":"2018-04-25T07:30:45","date_gmt":"2018-04-25T06:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=6776"},"modified":"2018-04-24T16:08:26","modified_gmt":"2018-04-24T15:08:26","slug":"three-speciality-polymer-filaments-for-3d-printed-parts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/three-speciality-polymer-filaments-for-3d-printed-parts\/","title":{"rendered":"Three speciality polymer filaments for 3D printed parts"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.solvayam.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Solvay Specialty Polymers<\/a><\/span> has launched of three speciality polymer filaments for 3D printed parts.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the company\u2019s KetaSpire PEEK and Radel PPSU polymers, the three filaments were represent the first products in what Solvay plans to become a broader portfolio of specialty polymer filaments and powders designed specifically for high-end AM applications.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-75656620019lko38327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nTwo of the three filaments leverage Solvay\u2019s KetaSpire polyetheretherketone (PEEK) polymer: a neat PEEK product and a 10-percent carbon fibre-reinforced grade.<\/p>\n<p>Both PEEK filaments are designed to allow excellent fusion of printed layers, enable high part density and deliver exceptional part strength \u2013 including in the z-axis.<\/p>\n<p>The third new filament is based on Solvay\u2019s Radel polyphenylsulfone (PPSU).<\/p>\n<p>Also formulated to allow excellent fusion of layers, this high-performance PPSU material offers high transparency, excellent elongation and superior toughness for 3D printed parts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aerospace and healthcare<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, Solvay is further developing an AM-ready powder based on its NovaSpire polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) polymer, which will target AM applications in aerospace and healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.solvayamshop.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Solvay<\/a><\/span>\u2019s new AM filaments signal an important convergence between additive manufacturing and speciality polymers technology, which is needed to deliver on the promise of high-end 3D printing,\u201d said Christophe Schramm, business manager for additive manufacturing at Solvay\u2019s Specialty Polymers global business unit. \u201cWith today\u2019s launch, Solvay is laying the foundation of its strategy to become the leading global supplier of advanced AM-ready polymer solutions for 3D printing technologies.
