It is an important scheme because it is part of a strategy to protect the Nottinghamshire Permo-Triassic aquifer, the most critical aquifer for public water supply in the Midlands.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nFurther, it is in a strategic location due to its underground interconnections between abandoned coal mines and surface watercourses.<\/p>\n<p>The MWTS is used to lower water levels across the coalfield and works in conjunction with other MWTSs. This important upgrade and modernisation contract links the requirement to maintain shaft water levels with upgrading ageing equipment to futureproof the Coal Authority\u2019s commitment to the local area.<\/p>\n<p>The Coal Authority is a government body set up to manage the effects of past coal mining operations, including subsidence, mine water pollution and other legacy issues. It oversees 75 mine water treatment schemes across Britain, handling and treating over 122 billion litres of mine water every year.<\/p>\n<p>This protects over 350 km (200 miles) of rivers, several important regional aquifers, biodiversity and amenity land.<\/p>\n<span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/pumping-station-benefits-from-bespoke-electro-mechanical-solution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ECS<\/a><\/span> has committed to install two new 210 kW pumps, both with a capacity of 110 litres per second at this important site for the Coal Authority.<\/p>\n<p>These two units will be located 116 metres below ground level, this being 30 m and 60 m lower retrospectively than the two original pumps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Service and inspection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Modification of the existing steel headwork platform will be undertaken to accommodate the new pumps and facilitate the service and inspection of this important installation for years to come.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7058\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7058\" style=\"width: 618px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ECSDMA316_A_Winning_Pic2_PR4945_34720.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-7058\" src=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ECSDMA316_A_Winning_Pic2_PR4945_34720-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Upgrade for mine water pump\" width=\"618\" height=\"927\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ECSDMA316_A_Winning_Pic2_PR4945_34720-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ECSDMA316_A_Winning_Pic2_PR4945_34720-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ECSDMA316_A_Winning_Pic2_PR4945_34720-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ECSDMA316_A_Winning_Pic2_PR4945_34720-800x1200.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ECSDMA316_A_Winning_Pic2_PR4945_34720.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7058\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ECS Engineering Services have committed to install two new 210 kW pumps, both with a capacity of 110 litres per second at this important site for the Coal Authority<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As part of this contract ECS will fit new coated pipework to the required depth and replace the existing HV\/LV electrical transformer.<\/p>\n<p>The contract also includes the design, build and installation of a new motor control centre (MCC) and renewal of the lighting, power supply and heating services.<\/p>\n<p>ECS is one of the UK\u2019s foremost engineering services suppliers and has many decades\u2019 experience in delivering high quality, reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions for water, energy and environmental processing and management projects.
