{"id":7520,"date":"2018-05-27T10:53:26","date_gmt":"2018-05-27T09:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=7520"},"modified":"2018-05-27T10:53:26","modified_gmt":"2018-05-27T09:53:26","slug":"continuous-monitoring-of-product-quality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/continuous-monitoring-of-product-quality\/","title":{"rendered":"Continuous monitoring of product quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEA and Perceptive Engineering, Daresburg, UK, have announced a <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gea.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collaboration to promote and deploy cutting-edge multivariate monitoring and Advanced Process Control (APC) solutions<\/a><\/span> for batch and continuous pharmaceutical process units.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership will further enhance GEA\u2019s ConsiGma platform for oral solid dose (OSD) pharmaceutical development and manufacturing by offering \u2018out of the box\u2019 APC and monitoring capabilities.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe continuous monitoring of product quality can prevent out-of-specification deviations and decrease production costs, as well as reducing final quality inspections by facilitating real-time release testing.<\/p>\n<p>The ConsiGma continuous tableting line is a multipurpose platform that has been designed to transfer powder into coated tablets in development, pilot, clinical and production volumes in a single compact unit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dosing and mixing of raw materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The system can perform dosing and mixing of raw materials, wet or dry granulation, drying, tableting, coating and quality control, all in one line.<\/p>\n<p>From powder to coated tablet, ConsiGma allows pharmaceutical companies to continuously process and manufacture oral solid dosage forms.<\/p>\n<p>Offering significant reductions in development time and raw material (API) use, process and energy costs can be considerably decreased using this technology while maintaining quality and increasing manufacturing efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Headquartered in north-west UK, Perceptive Engineering specialises in the deployment of model-based APC, especially within the pharmaceutical sector.<\/p>\n<p>Perceptive\u2019s PharmaMV platform provides modular tools to design, deploy and maintain advanced applications within a regulated environment.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership builds on the successful implementation of Perceptive\u2019s APC platform into the first-generation PCMM (portable, continuous, miniature and modular) platform for the development and production of pharmaceutical OSDs.<\/p>\n<p>Originally conceived in conjunction with Pfizer and G-CON, the three companies formed a consortium to design and build a portable, autonomous manufacturing environment for continuous OSD production using <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/pavan-and-gea-join-forces-for-the-first-time-at-anuga-foodtec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GEA<\/a><\/span>\u2019s ConsiGma 25 equipment and G-CON&#8217;s modular POD system.<\/p>\n<p>A prototype unit is currently being implemented at Pfizer\u2019s labs in Groton (Connecticut, USA).<\/p>\n<p>This collaboration also builds on the previously announced relationship between GEA and Siemens, as well as the existing association between Siemens and Perceptive.<\/p>\n<p>Together, this provides an industrially proven solution for pharmaceutical manufacturers, comprising both hardware and software platforms, as well as PAT integration, process monitoring, process analytics, control and optimisation.<\/p>\n<p>This complete, seamless suite is designed to help pharma companies exploit the opportunities presented by moving to continuous manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the announcement, GEA\u2019s Phillip Gabb, Head of Solid Dosage Sales Support, said: \u201cWith collaborations such as this one, GEA and its partners are leading the way toward smaller, more flexible continuous processing technologies that have the potential to transform the future of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing \u2014 and deliver customised quantities of drugs to patients in need in a quick and efficient way.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GEA and Perceptive Engineering, Daresburg, UK, have announced a collaboration to promote and deploy cutting-edge multivariate monitoring and Advanced Process Control (APC) solutions for batch and continuous pharmaceutical process units.
