That\u2019s according to the latest data from <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cv-library.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe stigma around discussing mental health is still very much present, and the majority (72.7%) of engineering professionals agree that not enough is being done to support mental health at work.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, almost two thirds (60%) have considered resigning from a job due to lack of support. That\u2019s according to the latest data from <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/a-quarter-of-engineers-are-confused-about-how-to-look-for-a-job\/\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, the UK\u2019s job site.<\/p>\n<p>The survey of 1,100 UK workers sought to explore the topic of mental health in the workplace and how well employers support their staff.<\/p>\n<p>With 31.8% of engineers revealing that aspects of their job can cause them to feel anxious or depressed, it\u2019s clear that something must be done.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what measures employers can introduce to help support their staff, respondents said:<\/p>\n<p>* Promote a healthy work-life balance \u2013 49.1%<br \/>\n* Refer employees to a counselling service \u2013 21.8%<br \/>\n* Have an internal counselling service for staff \u2013 10%<br \/>\n* Talk more openly about mental health \u2013 9.1%<br \/>\n* Create an environment where mental health is not stigmatised \u2013 5.5%<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the majority (81.8%) of professionals in the engineering sector believe that employers should offer mental health days for staff, with 74.5% agreeing that they\u2019d be more likely to work for a company that did.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Employers should be given training to help them understand mental health<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A staggering 88.1% also said that they believe that employers should be given training to help them understand mental health and how to help employees who may be suffering.<\/p>\n<p>Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/7284-2\/\">CV-Library<\/a><\/span>, comments: \u201cIt\u2019s concerning to learn that engineering professionals aren\u2019t feeling supported by their employers when it comes to their mental health and it\u2019s clear more needs to be done to tackle this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a sad reality that mental health problems can affect all areas of life. But if you\u2019re struggling to cope at work, it\u2019s important that you don\u2019t suffer in silence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Worryingly, 75% of engineering professionals confessed that they would be too embarrassed to disclose information about the state of their mental health to their employer.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, a huge 79% feel guilty for taking time off for mental health reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Biggins concludes:\u201cFrom our data, it\u2019s obvious that there is a deep-rooted stigma around talking about mental health, particularly at work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it\u2019s clear that engineering professionals are reluctant to take days off to look after their mental wellbeing. But the truth is, you wouldn\u2019t feel bad leaving work because of a migraine or stomach bug and your mental health shouldn\u2019t be any different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are comfortable enough with your boss, it\u2019s important to let them know what\u2019s going on.
