{"id":8817,"date":"2018-08-09T10:51:16","date_gmt":"2018-08-09T09:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=8817"},"modified":"2018-08-09T10:51:16","modified_gmt":"2018-08-09T09:51:16","slug":"artificial-intelligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/artificial-intelligence\/","title":{"rendered":"Artificial Intelligence SSD Controller Architecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marvell has demonstrated at the Flash Memory Summit how it will provide artificial intelligence capabilities to a broad range of industries by incorporating NVIDIA\u2019s Deep Learning Accelerator (NVDLA) technology in its family of data center and client SSD controllers.<\/p>\n<p>Marvell\u2019s <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marvell.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI SSD controller<\/a><\/span> proof-of-concept architecture solution will highlight how machine learning can help applications accelerate with minimal network bandwidth and no host CPU processing, delivering a significant reduction in overall total cost of ownership.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nThe architecture is anticipated to enable a new era of storage SSD solutions in areas such as cloud and edge data centres, automotive, industrial, communications networking, environmental monitoring, banking and client, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Big data analytics systems require enormous amounts of information to be processed to gain important insights.<\/p>\n<p>Metadata tagging is required for this processing to run efficiently and effectively. Storage solutions must become more intelligent to enable the generation of this metadata at the storage end points to help optimise overall efficiencies while increasing user experiences and business productivities.<\/p>\n<p>By adding NVDLA to its SSD controllers, Marvell is bringing deep learning inference to forms of SSDs, improving efficiency, reducing power consumption, maximising scalability and optimising distribution of resources.<\/p>\n<p>Even large-scale datasets can be fully supported, while still reducing hardware investment and operational expenditure.<\/p>\n<p>The scalability of this solution will also allow enterprises and cloud service providers to add more offerings and capabilities to their product portfolios leveraging AI technologies.<\/p>\n<p>This programmable architecture will enable AI models to be quickly updated, so that new use cases can be addressed as they emerge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs greater and greater amounts of data get generated at edge and end points, it is critical new end-to-end architecture solutions are developed to increase overall productivity while addressing the pain points of application response time and total cost of delivery,\u201d said Nigel Alvares, VP of SSD and Data Center Storage Products, Marvell. \u201cOur AI SSD controller proof-of-concept architecture solution leveraging NVIDIA\u2019s NVDLA technology offers our customers and eco-system partners a framework to collaborate and develop the next generation of SSD and client-to-cloud infrastructure architecture solutions needed to enable and deliver tomorrow\u2019s applications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is access to data that will fuel big data analytics,\u201d added Noam Mizrahi, VP of Technology &amp; Architecture at Marvell. \u201cSystems will need to be able to analyze large quantities of data &#8211; of different types and from different locations.
