{"id":9599,"date":"2018-11-05T11:51:36","date_gmt":"2018-11-05T11:51:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=9599"},"modified":"2018-11-05T11:51:36","modified_gmt":"2018-11-05T11:51:36","slug":"living-wage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/living-wage\/","title":{"rendered":"Intelliconnect accredited Living Wage employers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Intelliconnect (Europe) Ltd, the UK based specialist manufacturer of RF and cryogenic connectors and cable assemblies, have become accredited Living Wage employers.<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingwage.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Living Wage Foundation<\/a><\/span> is a movement made up of more than 4,400 organisations, businesses and people across the UK, who believe that a hard day&#8217;s work deserves a fair day&#8217;s pay and aims to ensure that everyone can earn enough to live on.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nIn April 2016 the UK government introduced a higher minimum wage rate for all staff over 25 years of age inspired by the Living Wage campaign, even calling it the &#8216;national living wage&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>However, the government&#8217;s &#8216;national living wage&#8217; is not calculated according to what employees and their families need to live.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, it is based on a target to reach 60% of median earnings by 2020. Under current forecasts this means a rise to less than \u00a39 per hour by 2020. For under 25s, the minimum wage rates also take into account affordability for employers.<\/p>\n<p>The real Living Wage rates are higher because they are independently-calculated based on what people actually need to get by. Employers that can afford to do so are being encouraged ensure their employees earn a wage that meets the costs of living, not just the government minimum.<\/p>\n<p>Roy Phillips, Managing Director of <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.intelliconnect.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intelliconnect<\/a><\/span>, comments: \u201dOur continued success is completely dependent on our workforce and we intend to ensure that all of them and any sub-contractors we use are paid a fair, living wage. After a year of exceptional sales growth we are relocating both our sales and engineering and production facilities to larger premises and will be recruiting new staff at all levels including offering apprenticeships.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Living Wage Foundation recognises and celebrates the leadership shown by Living Wage Employers across the UK and is the organisation at the heart of the independent movement of businesses and people that campaign for the idea that a hard day&#8217;s work deserves a fair day&#8217;s pay.
