However, this is no easy task, as Maria Torissi explains<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s reported that to meet <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/issuu.com\/malta_business_bureau\/docs\/iie_enviro-economic_report_ee_byind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Malta\u2019s 2020 renewable and energy efficiency targets<\/a><\/span>, businesses will need to invest between 30 and 64 million euros.<\/p>\n<p>With significant pressure from the European Government to reduce carbon emissions, facility managers are trying to implement new technologies to improve energy efficiency while providing the same level of comfort for occupants and visitors.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nTraditionally, managers have controlled the temperature of a facility with scheduled timer systems.<\/p>\n<p>Reprogrammed for each season, the timer would automatically turn the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system on and off.<\/p>\n<p>While this sounds practical, we all know from experience that the weather differs each day and, in turn, so does a building\u2019s temperature requirements.<\/p>\n<p>This is why <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/building-automation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JMartans Automation<\/a><\/span> is urging more businesses to look at monitoring and controlling the services, like energy consumption in their building, with <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2JabE69\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">building energy management systems<\/a><\/span> (BEMSs). A BEMS can collect a buildings data in real-time and can be used to configure the building\u2019s HVAC facilities to suit the requirements for that given temperature.<\/p>\n<p>For example, with BEMSs the system monitors both the room and outside temperature. With this data the BEMS learns the characteristics of the space and determines the most efficient time to turn a building\u2019s service on and off. This can also include managing the temperature in different areas of a building, depending on whether it is occupied or not.<\/p>\n<p>Installing a BEMS also makes monitoring the operation and maintenance of equipment easier. The system combines several engineering systems, to report faults and adjust controls remotely.<\/p>\n<p>By providing managers with a simple way of controlling the central heating and other features of a building, BEMSs make it possible for managers to reduce energy costs and improve overall efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Since most your visitors won\u2019t boast zebra stripes to regulate their temperature, the installation of a BEMS can make the task of adjusting a building\u2019s temperature to a satisfactory level an easier task that helps your visitors feel right at home.<\/p>\n<p>Maria Torissi is business development manager of building management system provider <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2JabE69\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JMartans Automation<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Facility and building managers must find ways of regulating the temperature of a building.
