Interestingly, a quarter (24.6%) of engineering workers have had to fire someone in the past.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nWith this in mind, when asked about the top signs that someone is about to be fired, engineering professionals cited the following:<\/p>\n<p>1. Raised concerns around performance \u2013 77%<br \/>\n2. Receiving a formal disciplinary \u2013 68.9%<br \/>\n3. Recently making a big mistake at work \u2013 47.5%<br \/>\n4. Upsetting a manager and\/or co-worker(s) \u2013 36.1%<br \/>\n5. Being avoided by managers \u2013 31.1%<br \/>\n6. Hearing rumours from colleagues \u2013 23%<br \/>\n7. Workload being reduced \u2013 23%<br \/>\n8. Senior staff having lots of meetings \u2013 19.7%<br \/>\n9. Shifts have been reduced \u2013 18%<br \/>\n10. Manager is training up colleagues \u2013 9.8%<\/p>\n<p>Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library comments, on the findings: \u201cIf any of these signs sound familiar, it\u2019s best to not panic right away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust because your colleagues are having extra training, or managers are having regular meetings, it doesn\u2019t mean that you\u2019re about to get fired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps your colleague just needed more support! That said, a formal disciplinary or concerns being raised about your performance is a sure fire sign that you need to make a change. By developing your skills, you can excel any areas you may be underperforming in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be clear on your rights:<\/strong> There\u2019s certain boxes employers must tick before they can fire someone, so read up online to get a better understanding of your rights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arrange a meeting with your manager:<\/strong> Explain why you\u2019re concerned about your job and be sure to come armed with examples of how you contribute towards the team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Set up a meeting with HR:<\/strong> They\u2019ll be clued up on the situation and are able to offer advice or intervene if you feel you\u2019re facing unfair dismissal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prepare for the worst case scenario:<\/strong> While it\u2019s difficult to think about, if you\u2019re not right for the role it could be time to update your CV and browse other opportunities in the engineering industry.<\/p>\n<p>Biggins concludes: \u201cIf you\u2019re concerned about your job, it\u2019s best to speak with your manager or the HR department. They\u2019ll be able to help you identify if there really is a problem and advise you on how to resolve it.
