{"id":9813,"date":"2018-11-20T11:30:10","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T11:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/?p=9813"},"modified":"2018-11-20T11:30:10","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T11:30:10","slug":"side-actuated-detect-switches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/side-actuated-detect-switches\/","title":{"rendered":"Side-actuated detect switches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>C&amp;K announces availability of two new series of micro-mini, side-actuated detect switches.<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ckswitches.com\/product-selection\/detect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FDSD and FDSE ranges<\/a><\/span> are one of the world\u2019s smallest detect switches suitable for applications that require vertical side detection.<\/p>\n<p>The FDSD series of micro-mini side-actuated detect switches are available in an extremely small package size of just 4.20mm x 3.60 mm x 1.20mm, with optional flat or bent terminals that allows for simple PCB mounting.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7565662001938327\" data-ad-slot=\"7585079586\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>The SPST-NO beryllium copper contacts have a resistance of less than 1ohm and are rated for 10 mA at 5VDC with a lifetime of 50,000 operations. The detect switch requires a maximum force of 40gf and can travel through an angle of 60 degrees or 3.05mm.<\/p>\n<p>The FDSE range adds an angled capability to the range. Housed in the same package size, the SPST-NC contacts are also beryllium copper and offer a 50,000-operation lifetime. The contact resistance is less than 3ohms and the electrical rating is 1mA at 5VDC.<\/p>\n<p>The angled detect switch requires a maximum force of 35 gf and can travel through an angle of 60 degrees or 3.14 mm.<\/p>\n<p>Both of the new product families offer long travel detection in an incredibly small PCB-mount package, allowing for a wide range of travel detection where limited space is available.<\/p>\n<p>With an operating temperature range of -10\u00b0C to +60\u00b0C, FDSD and FDSE switches are commonly used in consumer electronics, medical devices and safety control applications as well as are suitable for a wide range of other applications.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the switches are commonly used in inhalers to detect the presence of a cartridge in order to activate medicine delivery and to confirm the dose has been dispensed.<\/p>\n<p>Said Jeffrey Phan, Global Product Manager, <span class=\"highlight highlight-blue\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineernewsnetwork.com\/blog\/rs-components-announces-expansion-of-board-and-panel-mounted-switch-portfolio-from-ck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C&amp;K<\/a><\/span>: \u201cThe FDSD and FDSE switches provide a robust, reliable and price-competitive detect function in an incredibly small package.\u201d The RoHS-compliant FDSD and FDSE detect switches are supplied in standard 1 reel of 3,500 devices to allow for simple, cost-effective PCB mounting. 3D models of both switches in a variety of file formats are available from the C&amp;K website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>C&amp;K announces availability of two new series of micro-mini, side-actuated detect switches.
