India to see second highest propylene capacity additions in Asia through 2030

India is set to register the second highest propylene capacity additions in Asia, contributing about 19% share of the region’s capacity additions by 2030, estimates GlobalData, the data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s report, Propylene Market Capacity and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) Forecast by Region, Top Countries and Companies, Feedstock, Key Planned and Announced Projects, 2022-2030, reveals that India will have 19 new-build and expansion projects with capacity additions of about 7.89 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2030.

Sudarshini Ennelli, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “A major portion of the capacity additions in India will come from Haldia Petrochemicals Kakinada Propylene Plant, with a capacity of 1.6 mtpa. It is expected to commence production of propylene by 2025.”

Reliance Industries Jamnagar Propylene Plant 3 is the second biggest plant in terms of capacity additions with 1.5 mtpa output capacity. Operated by Reliance O2C, it is expected to start production by 2025.

With a production capacity of 0.7 mtpa, Indian Oil Corporation Paradip Propylene Plant is the third biggest contributor to new capacity additions in the country. Indian Oil is the operator of the plant, which is expected to start producing propylene by 2025.
