Flow sensors suited for filtration systems, including reverse osmosis plants

Accurate measurement of flow rates in aqueous liquids, including ultrapure water, is now even easier to achieve thanks to the latest additions to the SU family of high-performance ultrasonic flow sensors from ifm electronic. The new models offer clamp-type process connections, in accordance with DIN32676 series C requirements, and complement the existing products in the range which have threaded G- and NPT-series connections.

Sensors in the SU family, including the new fully welded Tri Clamp models, are ideally suited for use in a variety of filtration systems, including reverse osmosis plants. When used in conjunction with LDL101 low-range conductivity sensors, they provide reliable flow and conductivity measurement of produced permeate which helps to provide the required quality control for filtration processes.

Key features of SU sensors include a smooth measuring tube that is free of obstructions such as measuring elements, seals and moving parts. This means that the sensor has negligible effect on the liquid flow, and eliminates problems related to leaks and blockages. As a further aid to process reliability, the sensors include an integrated monitoring function that provides local and remote indications of signal quality impairment resulting from, for example, increases in solids content in the liquid being monitored.

The new models in the SU range are available in four versions. The SUH200 has a 1-inch process connection clamp and a measuring range of 1 to 240 litres per minute, while the SUH400 has a 2-inch clamp and a measuring range of 5 to 1000 litres per minute. The SUH201 and SUH401 offer identical performance to the SUH200 and SUH400 but can be configured to operate in gallons per minute and litres per minute.

All of the new models have an IO-Link output that provides comprehensive real-time data for flow rate, totaliser, medium temperature and sensor status, as well as the option to select a 4-20 mA analogue output, a pulse output, a switching output and a diagnostic output
