Kidde Global Solutions has announced the launch of MiniLaser, a compact, high-performance Aspirating Smoke Detector (ASD) designed to bring very early warning fire detection to mid-size applications where space and budget matter.
Built on the ModuLaser platform, MiniLaser delivers detection performance in a slightly smaller footprint, making advanced ASD technology more accessible for a wider range of installations.
Compact design with high sensitivity detection
MiniLaser maintains the same detection technology used in the ModuLaser platform, delivering a sensitivity range of 0.005 – 20 %obs/m. With the optional laser dust discrimination technology, the system can identify and filter out dust peaks, enabling high sensitivity while maintaining reliable operation. This is just one of the features of the MiniLaser which ensures a very robust solution, even in challenging environments.
The system supports up to 125 metres of combined pipe length, with capacity for up to 35 sampling holes, making it suitable for Class A, B and C (EN) as well as Special Application and Open Area (UL)detection standards.
MiniLaser also shares filters, pipe fittings and software tools with the existing ModuLaser range, allowing installers to use the same components and technical expertise across both systems.
Designed for efficient installation
The system has been engineered to simplify installation and commissioning. Configuration can be performed using dip-switches based on pre-designed sampling pipe layouts, or sampling pipe design with PipeCAD and configuration with Remote software via laptop for more advanced setups.
Additional design features include USB-C connectivity for configuration and maintenance, an invertible detector for flexible pipe entry from top or bottom, and a front LED bar-graph display showing smoke development in the protected area.
Modular expansion capability
The base unit includes one input and three outputs, two of which are freely programable. Enabling interfacing to the fire detection system or building management system.
For projects requiring expanded functionality, the base unit can be expanded with the Expansion Sub-Module which accommodates up to two Functional Modules. Additional I/O capacity is provided with the Input/Output Functional Module, which offer the option to add five outputs and two inputs which are freely programmable.
Applications and availability
MiniLaser is designed for applications where the performance of a full ModuLaser system may be unnecessary or oversized, including IT infrastructure, cleanrooms, cold-chain logistics environments, museums and heritage buildings.
