Processing additive streamlines mixing and enhances filler dispersion across a wide range of elastomers

Struktol Company of America, LLC introduces STRUKTOL FM 126, a specially formulated processing additive designed to give rubber compounders faster, more efficient mixing without sacrificing end‑product performance. Engineered for modern rubber manufacturing environments, FM 126 provides a purpose‑built solution that tackles common mixing challenges and offers compounders a high‑confidence way to improve processing while keeping existing formulations intact.

FM 126 improves rubber compound mixing efficiency by reducing overall mixing time, helping processors shorten mixing cycles, increase throughput, and better utilize existing mixing equipment capacity. By enabling mixing stage reduction or consolidation, the additive makes one‑pass mixing possible in many formulations. This capability simplifies compounding workflows, reduces handling steps, and supports lower energy and labor costs in rubber production. FM 126 is designed to consolidate mixing stages so plants can move more material through their lines while maintaining consistent quality.

Delivering faster filler incorporation and enhanced dispersion of carbon black, silica, and other mineral fillers, FM 126 helps rubber manufacturers produce more uniform compounds within shorter mixing cycles. The additive achieves superior dispersion in a single pass, ensuring reinforcing agents are thoroughly distributed throughout the rubber matrix. As a result, processors gain more consistent physical properties, lower defect rates, and more reliable finished parts. With fillers incorporated and dispersed quickly and completely, manufacturers can reduce mixing time without sacrificing batch uniformity.

FM 126 effectively lowers compound viscosity and improves compound flow, making rubber compounds easier to process from mixing through downstream forming operations. Reduced viscosity helps lower mixer torque requirements and supports smoother flow into extrusion and molding equipment. Improved compound flow, combined with better surface finish on molded and extruded parts, gives processors a practical path to cleaner, more consistent components and less rework. These processing advantages are achieved while mechanical and dynamic properties are maintained, so compounders can gain efficiency benefits without sacrificing durability, fatigue resistance, or other critical performance characteristics in their finished products.

To support reliable production even as mixing stages are reduced, FM 126 improves compound scorch safety. The additive increases the processing safety margin and reduces the risk of premature vulcanization, helping ensure that compounds remain manageable throughout downstream processing. This added protection allows processors to confidently adopt shorter mixing times and one‑pass strategies while maintaining dependable performance in subsequent operations.

FM 126 is suitable for a wide range of elastomers, including SBR, NR, BR, EPDM and others, giving manufacturers broad formulation flexibility across multiple product lines while allowing them to standardize on a single additive to support improved mixing and flow and simplify raw material inventories and purchasing.

For optimum performance, FM 126 is recommended to be added together with the fillers during mixing, ensuring its effects on filler incorporation, dispersion, viscosity, and flow are fully realised in the compound. By combining faster mixing, mixing stage reduction and consolidation, faster filler incorporation, enhanced dispersion of key fillers, lower viscosity, improved flow and surface finish, maintained mechanical and dynamic properties, improved scorch safety, and broad elastomer compatibility.
