Plant-based, non-fluorinated fabric treatment

Chemours, a chemistry company with leading market positions in titanium technologies, fluoroproducts and chemical solutions, was announced as the third-place winner of the Bio-Based Product of the Year at the 2018 Bio-Based World News Innovation Awards for Teflon EcoEliteT, the world’s first renewably-sourced, plant-based, non-fluorinated fabric treatment.

This award highlights products that are derived from plants and other renewable agricultural, marine, and forestry materials and provides an alternative to conventional petroleum derived products, with innovative developments in price, functionality and quality.

“We are honoured to be named as one of the winners of the 2018 Bio-Based Product of Year by the Bio-Based World News Innovation Awards.” stated Paul Kirsch, president of Chemours Fluoroproducts. “This award recognises Chemours’ leadership in addressing key global trends and helping our customers keep up with fast-paced shifts in consumer needs to bring a higher quality of life and everyday conveniences to people worldwide.”

2018 marks the 80th anniversary of the discovery of fluoropolymers (PTFE), which led to the TeflonT brand and over the years TeflonT has been an integral part of many of humankind’s advancements.

As times continue to change and there is a demand for more sustainable solutions, TeflonT has once again been reimagined.  Teflon EcoEliteT, the latest innovation from Chemours is the first-ever plant-based water repellant.

It is up to three times more durable than existing non-fluorinated water-repellent finishes and is the first bio-based fabric repellent on the market.

With Teflon EcoEliteT, this breakthrough DWR technology gives brands, designers, and mills a high performing, renewably sourced offering (60% renewable carbon content) capable of meeting the demanding performance requirements thought to be met exclusively by fluorinated DWR products, supporting clothing makers’ focus on shrinking their environmental footprint.

Teflon EcoEliteT finishes provide durable repellent performance that still performs after 30 or more washes meeting the needs of demanding outdoor brands and consumers.
