Converters deliver efficient power to isolated circuits

Devices are ideal for a wide range of applications, including protection relays and smart breakers, PLC analogue input and output modules, patient monitoring, and isolated voltage and current sensing

Mouser Electronics is now stocking the UCC12050 and UCC12040 isolated DC-DC converters from Texas Instruments (TI).

The high-efficiency converters are designed to provide efficient, isolated power to circuits that require a bias supply with well-regulated output voltages.

The devices are ideal for a wide range of applications, including protection relays and smart breakers, PLC analogue input and output modules, patient monitoring, and isolated voltage and current sensing.

TI’s UCC12050 and UCC12040 converters, available from Mouser Electronics, use a proprietary architecture to integrate a transformer and DC-DC controller, providing 500mW of isolated power with low electromagnetic interference (EMI) and high efficiency.

Both devices provide protection features for impressive system robustness, in addition to synchronisation capability and regulated 3.3V or 5V output options.

The UCC12050 offers a 5 kVRMS reinforced isolation rating, a surge capability of 10 kVPK, and a working voltage of 1.2 kVRMS.

The UCC12040 converter comes with a 3kVRMS basic isolation rating, surge capability of 8kVPK, and a working voltage of 800VRMS.

The UCC12050 and UCC12040 converters are supported by the UCC12050EVM-022 evaluation module.

The module allows designers to evaluate the abilities and performance characteristics of the two converters, with an EVM layout that provides an example of a proper board layout for rated isolation and EMI performance.
