Displays offer enhanced optical performance, extended operating temperature

KOE Rugged+ TFT displays provide strong performance

Industrial LCD manufacturer KOE has announced the introduction of two new 7.0-inch Rugged+ display modules.

The TX18D210VM0BAA and TX18D211VM0BAA both feature IPS (in-plane switching) technology, WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) resolution and a 15:9 wide aspect ratio, enhanced optical performance and an extended operating temperature range.

Offering the ideal solution for graphical user interface applications, the latest IPS display technology delivers exceptional colour saturation and image stability, high contrast and deep black levels.

Viewing angles of up to 170° are supported in all directions (left/right, up/down). The 7.0-inch display features a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a white LED backlight with a brightness rating of 1200cd/m² and a 50K hour half-brightness lifetime. These key features ensure that display images are exceptionally bright, colourful and accurately reproduced.

The optical and environmental specifications of KOE’s Rugged+ display modules are derived from the same demanding standards and quality assurance levels used in automotive grade displays.

The 7.0-inch Rugged+ display modules have been developed for use under extreme temperature, mechanical shock and vibration environments where guaranteed and consistent display operation is deemed essential.

KOE’s Rugged+ TFT display modules provide reliable operation in extreme temperature environments by supporting an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

Jason Tsai, KOE marketing manager, said: “The introduction of two new medium-sized Rugged+ displays reaffirms KOE’s commitment to supporting displays that are appropriate for industrial and harsh environment applications. In-plane switching provides exceptional optical performance, coupled with a robust mechanical specification ensures that Rugged+ displays will provide reliable, fault-free operation in a wide range of equipment and product designs.”

The TX18D210VM0BAA features a 40-pin CMOS data interface, while the TX18D211VM0BAA has a 20-pin LVDS data interface.

Each module supports 6-bit RGB data which enables a colour palette of up to 262k colours.

Both display modules feature compact mechanical outline dimensions of 167.7mm (w) a 109.5mm (h) x 9.0mm (d) and have an active display area of 152.4mm (w) x 91.44mm (d). Additionally, the new TX18D210VM0BAA and TX18D211VM0BAA modules are mechanically and electrically compatible with the existing KOE 7.0-inch TX18D205VM0BAA and TX18D206VM0BAA displays.

The 7.0-inch modules feature a TFT LCD cell which is produced using a LTPS (low temperature poly-silicon) manufacturing process which enables higher brightness, reduced power consumption and reduces internal heat generation due to increased LCD transmittance and an enhanced pixel aperture ratio.

The new Rugged+ display modules also feature an enhanced cosmetic specification which defines zero bright dot defects i.e. no dead pixels with a bright failure mode.

Display modules with dot defects are hugely undesirable if the dead pixels appear in the central part of the viewable display area. KOE’s zero bright dot defect specification provides users with the assurance and peace of mind of a premium, high quality display module.
