IR3000 moisture sensors improve quality, productivity, and energy efficiency

Moisture sensors for pulp and paper applications

MoistTech Corp‘s IR3000 series moisture sensors featuring NIR (Near Infrared) technology for exceptionally accurate and reliable moisture, coat weight, thickness, and temperature analysis throughout the paper and pulp production process.

Maintaining precise measurements is critical in pulp and paper production, where variations in moisture content can significantly impact product quality and manufacturing efficiency. The IR3000 sensors offer instant and continuous measurements, improving product quality, productivity, and energy efficiency from bark fuel to finished paper products.

The IR3000 sensors provide crucial moisture measurements at various stages of paper and pulp production. For bark fuel efficiency, the sensors monitor moisture content in bark used as fuel, ensuring optimal dryness for steam generation in pulp mills. In market pulp production, the sensors maintain the required 10% moisture content for baled market pulp, preventing fiber-to-fiber bonding and facilitating dispersion during processing. For rolled pulp products, the sensors ensure a 5-6% moisture content, while for finished papers, they maintain moisture levels between 2% and 12%, crucial for preserving paper properties.

The IR3000’s state-of-the-art near-infrared technology achieves unparalleled accuracy, delivering true, repeatable results year after year with little or no maintenance. Pre-calibrated in the factory, the sensor is guaranteed to never drift or require recalibration, unlike competing technologies that necessitate frequent adjustments.

MoistTech’s IR3000 sensors can provide accurate readings even at high moisture levels of 90%-96% at the wet end of production, where most moisture sensing equipment struggles. This capability, combined with typical moisture accuracy of ±0.05% and coating accuracy ranging from 0.1 to 0.01 micron, makes these sensors indispensable for paper and pulp manufacturers.

The IR3000 is essential for controlling various types of re-moisturizers and dryers in the paper production process. It enables precise moisture management in roll, steam, disk, and spray re-moisturizers, as well as convection, radiant, and infrared dryers. Real-time, continuous moisture measurement allows operational personnel to make crucial, immediate adjustments to the production process, optimizing energy usage and product quality.

The IR3000 generates an instant return on investment by enhancing product quality and consistency while simultaneously boosting productivity through decreased downtime and waste. Its non-contact design minimises contamination and maintenance, allowing for continuous operation without interfering with manufacturing processes.
