Networked electric motors for predictive maintenance

The WEG Motor Scan enables real-time monitoring on the basis of selected operating data, thus making predictive maintenance measures possible, and leading to longer motor service life and enhanced system availability levels

WEG will showcase the new Motor Scan condition monitoring technology plus energy-efficient electric motors with electronic speed control for HVAC applications.

WEG presents the WEG Motor Scan at SPS IPC Drives 2018, on Stand 466 in Hall 3A.

The new Motor Scan product is targeted to deliver remote monitoring of WEG Motors, in order to maximise uptime and enable predictive/preventative maintenance.

This new technology allows maintenance professionals to make informed decisions about the health of installed motors and react accordingly depending on the data captured.

Another highlight at the show is the electronic controlled IEC motors (WECM), for applications in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) field.

As part of a total solution they achieve an industry-leading efficiency level (IE5), WEG will also be showcasing the WG20 range of geared motors for rated torque levels up to 18,000 Nm.

The efficient helical, parallel-shift and bevel helical gears, each in three sizes, complete the product family first introduced two years ago.

Furthermore, WEG will present the MVW3000 series system inverters, made in Europe, for low- and medium-voltage applications; they are provided as complete systems integrated in cabinets.

Retrofitted condition monitoring

The WEG Motor Scan captures operating data in real time and can monitor any number of motors via a smart device App, which is available for Android and iOS.

On the basis of selected operating data, operators and maintenance staff can schedule and execute predictive maintenance as indicated by the condition of the motor.

The WECM electronically commutated motors are specially designed for radial and axial HVAC applications on the IEC market; what is more, they are quiet and feature low vibration levels

The gathered data can be transmitted to the cloud (secured), from which it can be retrieved via a mobile app or Web portal, the WEG IoT platform. This data enables detailed analysis of the electric motor and the WEG Motor Scan contributes to longer motor service life and enhanced system availability.

The new condition monitoring solution can be mounted easily as a retrofit option through the use of mounting clamps. With its IP66 protection class, the WEG motor scan is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

Energy-efficient HVAC motors for the IEC market

The electronic controlled WECM motors have been specially designed for radial and axial HVAC applications within the IEC market.

These energy-efficient permanent magnet motors, cover a power range of 0.12 kW to 1.1 kW and rated speeds of 1,500, 1,800 and 3,000rpm.

Thanks to the integrated electronic speed control system, the drive package achieves the IE5 energy efficiency class and comply with all relevant IEC and HVAC standards.

Powerful geared motors

Offering rated torque levels of up to 18000 Nm, WEG’s WG20 range of geared motors deliver efficient power transmission and in combination with WEG flanged motors up to 75kW and with efficiency classes up to IE4, this solution is ideal for demanding applications within steel, energy and mining. In addition, they help significantly with machine/ plant availability through the high level of operational safety and low maintenance.

System solutions

The MVW3000 integrated system inverters, made in Portugal, cover voltage levels from 2.3kV to 8kV and power ratings from 280kW to 2,400kW.

The big advantage here is that the inverters are available as complete system fully integrated in cabinets, with circuit breakers, fuses, multi-level input transformer and frequency converter.

Combined with WEG low- and medium-voltage motors, they can be incorporated in efficient drive solutions.
