Water jacket cooled motor meets demand for reduced noise

WEG showcases robust and compact water jacket cooled WGM20 motor at Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo

WEG, the manufacturer of motors and drive technology, will exhibit its high-performance WGM20 line of three-phase electric motors with a water jacket cooling system at Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo, held from 25th to 27th June at RAI Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

At the show WEG will showcase the water jacket cooled WGM20 solution, which meets the increasing demand for compact, reliable and reduced noise-level machines, where a higher output power within a small frame size is required.

It is suitable for applications such as main and positioning propellers, and pumps for marine applications, along with pumps, compressors, conveyor belts, fans, hoists and other equipment in petrochemical, mining and other manufacturing industries.

Additionally, the IC71W cooling system maintains thermal efficiency even at reduced speeds, which allows the application of this motor with variable frequency drives for occasions where constant torque is required.

Designed with a system consisting of longitudinal cooling water channels, the solution can be inspected and cleaned easily, which reduces maintenance costs.

“The water jacket cooled WGM20 is ideal for harsh environments which are constrained by size, and applications which require noise, vibration and heat dissipation to be controlled within specific parameters. Its superior build and performance make the motors perfect for marine and industrial customers and as a result we expect it to attract significant interest at Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo,” commented Ademar Welter Júnior, Development Sales Manager for European High Voltage Solutions, WEG.

With IP56 protection, the robust WGM20 motor is designed to keep all accessories protected inside the motor.

The water cooling channels are suitable to operate with treated industrial water and meet the majority of water specifications in the industry, and it can be supplied with marine certification such as Lloyd’s, Bureau Veritas, ABS or DNV.

It can also be operated when using several water inlet temperatures and multiple types of additives, such as antifreeze and anticorrosive, among others.
