Bauer adds aluminium die casting to in-house capabilities

Bauer Gear Motor has expanded its in-house manufacturing capabilities by acquiring an aluminium die casting facility in Italy.

Operating under the name Aluminium Die Casting SRL, the subsidiary will enable Bauer to further develop its manufacturing competence and increase the stability and reliability of its supply chain.

Ever since Wilhelm Bauer developed the idea of coupling a high speed electric motor with a gearbox, Bauer Gear Motor has been at the pinnacle of gearmotor technology.

Now a part of Altra Industrial Motion Corporation, Bauer manufactures high quality gearmotors that are renowned for their efficiency and their capacity to perform in the harshest of industrial environments.

All but the most specialised of its gearmotor range incorporates die cast aluminium casings and components, so the integration of die casting facilities into its in-house manufacturing capabilities makes a lot of sense.

Karl-Peter Simon, Bauer Gear Motor Managing Director, explains: “Throughout our history the name Bauer has been synonymous with efficiency, reliability and performance. As part of the Altra group we are committed to a process of continuous improvement through the development of Lean manufacturing techniques and investment in expertise.
“The acquisition of Aluminium Die Casting SRL allows us to consolidate our supply chain and improves the flexibility of our manufacturing competence. This will allow us to reduce lead times on orders for standard products while increasing the flexibility of our engineering services.”

Bauer Gear Motor develops modular gear motor solutions which perform to IE3 and IE4 classification, with specialist certifications available for most industries.

The new aluminium die casting facility in Italy is expected to open up further opportunity for R&D, allowing Bauer to continue to expand its product catalogue and remain at the cutting edge of gearmotor technology.
