What is the future of materials?

Design engineers and product designers will get insight into Matmatch’s vision for the future of evaluating and sourcing materials, based on research conducted by the company’s co-founders, at Engineering Materials Live on September 20th, 2018

The presentation will teach visitors about the benefits of using digital platforms for upcoming projects.

“When developing a new product, there are several key decision points involved. In addition to choosing a material, developers need to consider function, design, manufacturing and cost,” explained Dr Heiko Wildner. “Thanks to digitisation, materials can now be sourced at the click of a button, making procurement simpler and reducing the time required to research.

Dr Heiko Wildner, chief operating officer of materials comparison database Matmatch, will be presenting at Engineering Materials Live on September 20th, 2018

“Digitisation and tools like Matmatch present a wide range of opportunities for design engineers. Matmatch brings together data obtained from numerous trustworthy and verified sources including licensed academic and corporate material databases.

“Having all this information in one place means designers can broaden their horizons and get creative. Instead of sticking to what they know, digital platforms can assist engineers in finding alternative and more sustainable materials.”

The start-up, based in Munich will also celebrate its first birthday on September 20th, 2018. Matmatch now features over 90,000 materials from suppliers like Goodfellow, MMC and Schott AG.
